Re: ESF Parents-----Which Secondary School?
WYmom 寫道:
lulusing,
I also mean that as far as I know, existing ESF students did not move in order to choose secondary schools in another catchment areas. (even if they want to choose another school, can simply use address of another property to apply without moving as usually people own more than one property)
KGV is the oldest school, so it is more famous and well-known and its sport field is attractive. SC is catching up a lot these years and now as all schools move to IB, SC becomes the pioneer and some people even prefer it more. Island is always the more famous one in HK side. Due to locations, obviously there are more western kids in IS, WIS... guess you probably know it.
To me, they are all quite good. Most people will choose the one most convenient to them, and choose the one where most of their best friends go to. Your kid will choose it, don't worry!
Is your kid studying in ESF? Seems that you are always asking for advice and seldom share your own opinions.

My kids will probably go to ESF secondary school some years later. It is not urgent for me to make the decision.

To me, I would choose the best/most prefered school and cultural environment instead of considering the physical location of living.
In fact, catchment area is artificial. For example , some areas in Kowloon have just been rezoned and thus are subsumed under the catchment of Island School. Hence, moving or not is not the major concern. If the catchment area of the target/the most prefered school is the same as the living place, no need to move. If it is not, moving is a natural way.
For example, if one lives in Tsing Ti and does not prefer his/er kid to go to the ESF school on HK Island, one way to do is to move to another area in Kowloon so that s/he can remain on Kowloon Peninsula. Hong Kong is a small place. I am afraid physical distance is not a crucial factor for social circle.
The conclusion is: I would choose the school first, but not consider the living place.

Hi WYmom,
Is your kid studying in ESF, and will go to secondary earlier than mine? Will you share your further ideas on choosing secondary school?

Hope that more parents share ideas on choosing ESF or other international secondary schools.
