HKPS Vs Victoria Vs Keen Ming

Which one you will choose for PN ? How your rank them ? What is the difference among them ?

For me, I would rank the three kindy as follows: 1) Victoria, 2) Keen Mind and 3) HKPS.

Hi...just see yr question and would like to share my feelings that:

My son is studying in Victoria (HMT) where has PN class.  As I seen and observed, those kids in PN are very happy as they are looked after by one NET + one Cantonese + asst. teacher (actually, there have Putonghua teacher one year ago, but now it changed to Cantonese teacher la).  They always sing songs and dance.  Victoria also teach them some basic manner, such as line up to toilet, line up to play and say good-moring/goodbye..etc to classmates and teachers.

Hence, I also rank them in 1) Victoria  2) Keen Mind and 3) HKPS.

Wish this info. could help you to make decision la.

For PN class, Victoria is much better than KM and HKPS.  There are 30 students in a class at HKPS and half of the class is crying.  Can you imagine that?  Even your child is not crying in the class, he/she will be affected by the others.  A friend of mind change from HKPS to Victoria and her daughter is much happier now.

I suggest u go to the 3 kindy to observe the real situation and then make decision.  For the other 2, I have no ideas, but for victoria, u can visit and observe, of course, u need to seek approval fr the vice-principle.  As I know, the Victoria in HMT has such arrangement.  U can phone there and ask details.

I went to Victoria with my kid, It's located inside a residential building. We feel liked it's a tutor centre more than a kindergarten, from our traditional thoughts.
My boy doesn't seem to be so excited. He loves to run around those slide and playground with other kindy's have.
However, as you described b4 the Victoria got more additional courses like Taikwando. I don't know which to choose...?

Morning...

I agree w/ ReneeC that those 3 kindy adopting 3 different education styles and methods.  Most important is what kind of education u want to give to yr kid.

Of course, u also need to consider the charater and personality of yr son to see if he like lively education or traditional education.  What kind of primary school u're planning to apply for yr son.  What lang (i.e. purely Eng or Eng+ Putonghua or Eng+Chin), you want to foster to yr son..etc.

While regarding the envirnoment, I have no such extreme feeling as yrs.  It may becasue I've visited SC and KV which school builidings are rather old, especially SC where has long stairs for kids to climb-up to the classrooms.  So comparatively, I accept victoria lor~

Actually, those 3 kindy are not bad.

Hey, don't worry too much.  Seek more advice / search more info before making decision la.

Aa I known, Victoria is more like international school. It is more easy and happy for the kid. Is it right?
But I don't really know what is the difference between HKPS and Keen Ming .
Moreover, some friend told me it is no need for kid to start writing word even in K3 in Victoria. It is difficult for kid to catch up in Traditional P1. Is it right ?  I  plan to send my son to 直資 school. Not Victoria P1. Cannot afford private one.

My son is not really interested in Singing (in playgroup). He likes listening to story. He like to normal, not active, not quiet.

Can anyone help to explain ?

Yes, KM and HKPS are rather same same!  Even their locations are side by side!  Both the schools have PN class and both of them have not bad reputation.  

Just apply for both and sometimes you need to see which school give you a better offer---international class, am session, less expense(school fee, uniform, misc. fee), school bus arrangement etc.

Sometimes it's a matter of feeling.  Feel and touch the school and the teachers, to see which one make you feel good, feel being respected.

Many parents have different experiences about the same school!  So just pick the one suitable to your family!

Dear iriswk,

Oh.. I think yr friend has given wrong info. for u la.  As my son is studying in k2 of Victoria (HMT), he needs to write Eng, Chi and cal. Math.       

For Eng, they focus on Phonics and that's why they need to write the basic sounds such as "oo"  "ee"  and also need to recognize those words with the sounds and know how to pronounce them, such as "oo" -- cook, book, look, moon..etc.  My son also know which is "long oo sound" and which is "short oo sound" just by reading the words.  In addition, my son can read some Eng. books for primary 1 and even primary 2.

While for Chi, they need to write 2 words that can incorporate into a phase.  e.g. they need to write "今天" two words, not only one word and need to write down "今天是星期一" in a phase.

Regarding math, ___ + ___ = 7 which are several combination while students are requested to think abt and then write down different answers that make it equal to 7.

So, it's not truth for students no need to write in Victoria!!

But I agreed that Victoria is something like International School coz it adopts IB.  However, it really provide lively and happily learning environment.  For example, my son is learned what's Carbon Hydrate, what's Protein and he also known rice, noodles, bread are carbon hydrate that provide us energy while egg is protein that can help us to build muscle..etc.  I don't think other kindergartens would teach students with these concepts lor~  And obviously, most students can adopt what they learnt to their daily life.   Moreover, their communication skills in both Eng & Putonghua is very good and we no need to spend extra for him to learn Eng. oral la, Putonghua la...etc.  In this point, we save money as well as the time for my son to learn others, such as piano, swimming, drawing & Taekwando.

As I know only Victoria in HMT is adopting IB while the one in Causeway Bay is adopting traditional education, and many students there can easily be accepted by St. Paul / St. Paul Co-edu...etc top  primary schools.  So, I don't think it's difficult for the students in Victoria to link w/ the traditional primary schools lor.  To be honest, some famous celebrities also send their sons / daughters / grandsons / granddaughters to Victoria with these reasons.

Moreover, entering into victoria kindergarten doesn't mean you must enroll yr kids to its primary.  Like me, I'll try to apply other primary schools for my son and treat victoria primary as back-up.

Honestly, we just want to provide a lively and all-rounded education environment for my son to learn and to enjoy his first stage of learning and that's why we chose victoria for him.

So, u must, first of all, identify what kind of education u want to provide for yr child and then think abt what yr child will learn during the first 3 years education in kindy.

Anyway, wish my info. can somehow help u to make a final decision la.
