Re: English chapter book for kid
My son started reading Magic Tree House series when he was in P.1. He came from an "ordinary" kindergarten and did not know much English. In the first term of P.1, I let him read the Ladybird "Read it by yourself" series. In the second term, I let him read Magic Tree House series, Junie B Jones series, Captain Underpants series, A-Z mysteries series, Stilton series, etc. Usually I read him the first three chapters and asked him to read the rest of the book himself. If you have ever read a Magic Tree House book, you will notice that the author repeated using words such as "glare", "stare", "glance", "peer", "peek", "grab", "
snatch", "grasp", "shimmering", "gleaming", "medallion", "absolutely", "definitely", etc. So once you have read two or three Magic Tree House books to your kid, he can manage it on his own. This is my own experience. I don't know whether you find it useful or not. Now my boy is in P.2. He starts reading Goosebump series and some classics (simplified versions) like Frankenstein, The Adventure of Tom Sawyer, Dracula, A Christmas Carol, etc. Actually, I find the Goosebump series too long for him as a Goosebump book normally has 30 chapters with 100+ pages. In my opinion, a book of 60-70 pages (20+ lines per page) will be the most suitable. He can finish it within one hour. |
