You may go to ask another experienced parents whose are studying in ASP and SFA.

APS (我唔知ASP係邊間) 是全港最多人報考的私校/直資, 去年有2500個申請.  學校非常重視音樂. 不過40+人一班.  SFA我唔太清楚, 只知道Interview的paper都要六七頁.

My boy's swimming classmate is in APS, we discuss every week....she said they to to pay a lot of extra activities for her son such as TWO music intrutments excepts piano, need to practice on Saturday Morning.....
Limited vacant seats .............It is better to take a interview for testing for kids  same as SAF, SPPC...

My Answer:

His daddy like Catholic School style and he found that the students's behavious are very good.  We found our kid is able to pick it up by himself.

He writes and countings so fast.  We must thank his English & Mental teachers very much!

I don't know too much about SFA, but I can share my understanding in APS. The reasons why most of the APS graduates can get a seat in English middle school/Band 1 school is that APS is really have an excellent academic level (of course people always compare its English standard with other English PS). What I learnt from the existing P1 parents, they said the school wants to upgrade its English standard and so their children need to try very hard in this aspect. The others "weapon" of APS students is good musical standard. Most of the students acquired their Grade 8 in performing musical instrument while they are in P4/5.

Besides these, the teachers are patient and teach with God's love. They didn't stress on punishment but encouragement. Many people said APS sent many homework to the students, but most of the parents said their children complete the HW within an hour. But one thing it is true, APS Parents need more involvement, e.g. goto concert with their children twice an academic year and do the report, etc. Moreover, there are about 41 students in a class, the school building maybe a bit small where cannot provide enough space for children's activities.

One more thing to clarify, I'm not APS parent, what I share about APS are learnt from many existing APS parents, teachers & headmistress and the experience of my girl's kindergarten life in 宣幼 (cos' there are so many contacts between KG & PS and the church, eg. seminars, talk & social functions).

我也想分享一下我對宣小的睇法。

英語能力
宣小學生的英語能力絕對不弱於SFA的學生。宣小有自己的英語教學方法，她很重視培養學生"learn to learn"(學會如何學習)的能力。宣小在初小時會教phonics和高小時教IPA，這令學生可以運用優良語音能力去學好英語。宣小很重視phonics，在每次默書、測驗和考試，phonics 都是必考和必默的。到高小時，學生更要由IPA的語音，寫出英文句子，或由整句句子，寫出IPA。在小三時，phonics的worksheets更會配合readers，讓孩子把phonics技巧運用到不少生字的readers中。

另一方面，宣小的英語課程更會提升學生的英語閱讀能力和興趣，而學生有好的閱讀能力和興趣，英文自然會不斷進步。宣小因此不用傳統的英語課本，而用readers和自行設計的worksheets，就是要孩子掌握目標讀物的字彙和句式，令孩子不會感到閱讀英語讀物有任何困難，再加上reading scheme去鼓勵孩子閱讀。SFA在這方面有Eng. Lit.科目去達到同樣效果。

由於有不同的學習目標和優次，宣小在文法的教學進程不會和其它學校鬥快，宣小在小三時，才開始學過去式，而SFA在小一時，已有過去式。

在講方面，宣小亦很重視學生的oral。每次oral考試的考核形式都不同，可以是演講、對話、表演、朗誦、故事、介紹……，目的是要學生習慣用英語以不同形式去表達自己，而SFA就有運用語境教學和英語大使去提升講的能力。


功課量
宣小的功課量比SFA小，最重要是weekend的功課量不會較平日多，而假期又沒有功課。我囡囡在小一、小二時，每日只有半小時的功課量。今年小三，由於中文課本轉變了和多了英文science，相信老師還在適應中。今年開始時，功課多了一倍，要一小時才可完成，還有一天竟然有9樣功課，不過，近來，似乎已回復正常。


Project
宣小有三樣project是要家長幫手的：常識、音樂和體育。SFA就有教學生做project，所以這方面似乎SFA做得較好。囡囡小一時，我有嘗試指導她搜集資料和做project的技巧，不過，似乎是不太實際，應該把重點放在提升孩子在這三方面的興趣，令她自發去搜集資料、學習和看書。


每班人數
這個一定不是選擇宣小和SFA的重點，因為SFA和宣小都不是小班。如果宣小實行小班，只會令更少學生能入到宣小，而且小班教學的成效有很多爭議。我對著我的孩子時，已經係小班，一對一，可以補足大班的缺點。

練習時間，每位小朋友都不同。如果你想有一個預算，你可以預大約每天半小時。

另外很多宣小學生都會參加校外、校內的樂團，因此他們每星期都要回樂團練習。

以我所知，學費不包樂器，一個月學費約$2700多元，一年交十個月，而學器班就要交一年學費約$6400/44堂。
