Is he usually like that?  Is he an outgoing kid or a shy kid?  If he is usually a outgoing and happy kid and acts differently when going to school, this might mean that he doesn't like the school.  Maybe the school is not suitable for him.  Something annoyed him at school or the teachers are not capable of handling shy kids.  If he's always a shy kid, express your concern to the teachers and find out a way to improve the situation together.  worse come to worst, change to another school.  The first priority is that don't let your son associate school life with any bad experience.  Otherwise, he might not like going to school anymore.  Think about it, it's still a long, long way for him to go through.
