Young children love colourful, picture books.  Pop-up books are books with beautiful pop-up pictures when you open the pages.  You can buy either with words or without words because you can ask your kid to tell you the story from looking at the pictures if he's too young to read.  For older kid, of course, he can read the story by himself.  Books with beautiful pictures can motivate children to read.  Hope this help.
