I'm glad that Logos parents can share under this forum.

My son is studying at FS1. He goes to school happily everyday.

According to his homeroom teacher, there will be an additional lesson (for 拔尖保底)starting from the new school year. The last lesson will be ended at ~4:30p.m. everyday.

Do all your kids participate in the "Little Gardener" reading program? MY son got a certificate for his participation.

I felt the vibrations during the parent's meeting on last Thursday. I didn't realise that was the earthquake in that moment. I just wonder why the construction work was still onging so lately!!!       

In order to increase children's interests in English reading, I'd like to suggest the PTA to join the Scholastic Bookclub. Currently, most of the international schools and elite/dss schools (SPCC, YW, CKY, EC, ....) in HK have join the Scholastic Bookclub. There are lots of the good / popular English fictions and readers (usually ~40-50% of market price $) available each month in different catalogues which suits different reading groups. On one hand, Parents can order books for their kids at a very low $, whereas their classroom can get free copy of books/materials/ rewards for their library corner.  

For example, a set of Magic Tree House (book 1-28) or Junie B (Book 1-26) costs only US$39.9.

Scholastics accepts school (library / PTA unit) to join the SBookclub. Once the SBC account is established, then PT Parent Association can recruit parent volunteers to assist in books ordering and distribution.

I'm not sure if school / PA accept my suggestion as this may increase their work load.

Are you the committee in PA? Can you pass this suggestion to PA and raise it in the coming meeting? Or should I post this suggestion on the PA forum?

SBC is really good for us as we can purchase English readers at a very low cost. [I usually ask my friend (in another school) for help to order these books.]

The school needs to establish a bookclub account with scholastic before we can enjoy the discount. Every month, they will send the catalogues (booklist which suits for different reading level) to parents through school.

The books available through Scholastic Bookclub are only about 40-50% of the market value which are especially published for school market. The backcover of the books are marked with "FOR SCHOOL MARKET ONLY".

Of course, my son wants to participate in this activity. Do you know that this activity was orginially scheduled in last July (before the summer holiday)! It was cancelled because of the bad weather (heavily rain / typhoon ??? I couldn't remember the exact reason).

Mr. Dick Yuen arranges this activity after the summer holiday again. I'm considering whether I can take my son to attend the introductory seminar on 25/9 or 9/10 (7:30 -9:00p.m.) before the visit. According to the notice received, the kids need to attend this seminar if they join the photo taking activity.

The introductory seminar is arranged at night time (7:30-9:00p.m.) on Monday!!! We live too far away from the school and how can we manage to let our kid to attend this seminar???? (Remember, they need to go to school the following day.)

Do you live in TKO??? Really admire you that you can send your son to school. Can parents leave in campus during their assembly?

(I'd like to know how's my son's performance during morning assembly too. He never mentioned about it. If possible, I'll try to visit the school in the morning time.)

I see. I didn't send my son to school in the morning time.  I usually fetch him after school and chat with his homeroom teacher so that I can learn about his progress in the class.

Yes. From time to time, the school adminstration will organise some class visits for the parents. I remembered that there were 3-4 class visits for designated subjects in designated class last year.  If you're interested, you may submit the reply form for the attendance. Parents will be arranged to sit in another classroom (to minimize the disturbance) to watch live TV which shows the situation occurring in the designated classroom.

By the way, my husband will join the voluntary service on the sports day.
