Re: Anfield Kindergarten

Hi,

My two kids have been attending Anfield's playgroup, pre-programme and kindergarten since they're 18 months old. I'm very satisfied with the school. Their teachers are nice and considerate. Their curriculum is good. My two kids are very active. They learn discipline there and enjoy their school time very much.

Re: Anfield Kindergarten

Hi jclee,

Do they just teach English there?  Any Mandarin? And write Chinese?  Also, what is the teachers' English like?  Good?  Which primary schools do the children usually get into?

Tks.

Re: Anfield Kindergarten

Hi,
The school uses English curriculum, but it also teaches Chinese in Mandarin. For playgroup and pre-programme (only two hours each day), there is a 15min section of Mandarin teaching kids singing and talking in Mandarin (their Mandarin teachers were come from Beijing). For Kindergarten (half day, i.e. 3hurs), there is a 30min session teaching kids Chinese in Mandarin. K1 kids do not learn to write Chinese but only stroks. Kids will learn writing Chinese starting from K2. You may also enrol whole day class for K2 and K3, then there is another Chinese session in the afternoon.

Apart from Chinese, kids attend Music session, sports session (teaching by specialists), cooking session etc every week starting from pre-programme. I guess not many kindergartens in HK can provide such curriculum.

Their class teachers are native English speakers. Although some of them are Indians, they are very experienced teachers and welcomed by parents and kids.

Most of its graduates go to ESF and other international schools, though some of them go to local primary schools.

Re: Anfield Kindergarten

Just curious.  Wonder if the founder of Anfield International Kindergarten is a football fan as its school emblem resembles that of the Liverpool Football Club (Anfield Stadium).  Anyone noticed?

It is very funny...  my baby has been attending Anfield since 1 yr old, and she is now at the weekend playgroup, so far so good, but I will change to those local kinders as my target primary school is a local traditional school.

Re: Anfield Kindergarten

nn,
I would like to help my bb to join the weekend playground. With your experience, could you please kindly help to let me know the followings of Anfield Playground:
1. How is the arrangement of the playground schedule (for one section-2hours)?
2. Is the enviroment clean ?
3. Is the teacher experienced and good English ?
4. Will they train the bb to attend the class without the accompany of parents/helpers.
5. Is there any class helpers.
6. What is the teacher/bb ratio ?

You can find the basic info from its website: http://www.anfield.com.hk

1. It depends on how old is your baby.  They offer Toddlerobics for 1-2yrs old (45 min/lesson) and Playgroup for 1.5-3(?) yrs old (2hr/lesson).  FYI, for my baby's case (1.5 yr), so, I could choose either Toddlerobics or Playgroup.

2. Environment is OK, but the campus is quite old and small.  You can call and arrange a visit before making the decision.  They also have open days from time to time.

3. Teachers are expr, and native speakers.

4. As my classes (Toddlerobics and Playgroup) request the accompany of a parent, I don't know the answer.

5. No class helper, maybe there is one in the kitchen helping to prepare the snacks    I saw the teacher went out of the classroom and returned shortly with the snacks.

6. 1 teacher: 8 students for my classes.  Not sure about other age groups.

Re: Anfield Kindergarten

nn,
Thanks...
My bb is around the same age of yours. I will join the playgroup (2 hours).
On Anfield's website, it mentioned "All children under 3 years old need to be accompanied by a parent or carer who will need to remain on the premises during the class".
Is it only in area of school, or must accompany the bb in the class? If in the class, there will be 10bb + 10 carers + 1 teacher, will it be crowded ?

You are 101% correct, the classroom of my class is very crowded due to this arrangement (8 bbs + 8 carers + 1 teacher).  This only happens to my class, as my classroom is the smallest of the school, the other classes do not have this problem as the size of the other classrooms is nearly double of my classroom.  So, I have filed in a complaint to the school-master before CNY, she said she will reply me next week.

Re: Anfield Kindergarten

My son has already graduated from Anfield K.2 last year. He joined Anfield prep-programme since he was 2.5 years old.

During the pre-programme, the carer is required to stay in the school throughout the class, but if the child is ok, the carer can stay outside of the classroom. So, they classroom won't be too crowded. But, this might not be the case for the playgroups as the kids are even younger.
