At Primary ?? can a kid study by himself ?

Some P1 kids told me that they do homework and study all by themselves.  Do you think it is the right approach for an early 100% let go ?

For P.1, I don't agree doing things all by themselves. At lease start from P.3.

The question should be to yourself "Can my kid study on his own?"

Well, the child may not be ready yet.  But how about the parent's approach : teaching the child to study by himself or fully supervising the revision ? i.e. teaching the method or the material.

As P1's stuff is easy, we may feel more comfortable to let go.  We may still QC the results, but again, the emphasis is on the study method rather than going through the material with him.

Do you think it will work ?  It seems more difficult to let go in the higher grades when the study material become more complex.

My kid, in P1, does the homework by himself but I will check them afterwards. He also packs up the school bag himself and that I seldom check. For the test & exam, I may study with him but just quite short like 30-45 mins, and usually at the last minute after he studied all of them by himself. For weekly dictaton, I will give him a pre-run after he spelt all the words himself but I forget for a few times, and his mark is still ok (1~2 mistakes).

P.1-2 is easier, may let go and just do some checking.  P.3 onwards is not that easy anymore, have to train the kids to manage the work and time properly, and monitor his work more to see if he is on track.
