油天 or ST. Mary??

Both are my dream schools for my daughter with
20 points. My daughter is a active girl. Which is better for her?? Everybody say 油天 is the best in 31 district. Why? Is it a school with tranitional teaching method??

Maybe the private DGJS (in my opinion the best girls' school in the region and even in HK) suits your daughter. By the way, I don't think 油天 is the best in the 31 network, but it's true that both 油天 primary schools gain a lot of publicity in recent years.

The major shortcoming of 油天 is they don't have affiliated secondary colleges. There's no problem for油天 band 1 graduates (about 5x%) to promote to good secondary colleges either in/outside the region. However, for band 2 graduates there's not much good secondary colleges to choose from in the region.

Thank you for your idea. I know "St. Mary 由 2005 年開始一條龍可以直上中學" but that means more parents select this school. The competition is more, my change is less (only 20 points). Moreover, I am afriad this school is too tranitional that it is not suitable for my daughter. Do you think so??

Thank you for your information. I know that DGJS is the dream school for all parents but I know that it is
very very very difficult to study there. My daughter is studying in a common kindergarten and we are not rich. I think it is too expensive for school fee.

Both are good school.  If my son can attend  to 油天 and my daughter can attend to St. Mary, I will feel this is a mark six for me.......

My daughter is studying in P.1 St. Mary.

She is quite happy studying and she feels not boring at all.

I would say it is a good school for my daughter.

Can you tell the English standard of St.Mary?? Can your daughter catch up easily in P.1. My daughter is now studying at N2 in Salvation Army Nursery. They have phonics lesson. My collegues said that her friend's daughter is studying in ST.Mary and the English standard is difficult and not that easy for students from common kindergarten to catch up.

My daughter was studying in St. Catherine before.  There was not much difficulty in catching up the English in St. Mary,  if both parents involved in teaching their kids and homework guidance.

The more effort you give, the better outcome is.

Then why not apply to 油天 only? The younger brother/sister can be directly admitted to 油天 if the elder one is studying at 油天 !!!

As the headmistress of St. Mary's mentioned before, they found the English standard of primary 1 students varied a lot because they don't have the power/right to choose students (like those private/DSS).

I think the situation applied to renown schools like La Salle, Maryknoll, etc. as well, because most students have different educational backgrounds and most are admitted by pure luck. For some students, it will takes much time for teachers and parents alike to brush up their English (or other subject's) level to the requirement of school. A few students may need to change to another school if their standard cannot be improved in a few years' time.
