DBS PD P1 curriculum

There is "rumor" that DBS PD is applying curriculum of higher grade to P1 from day 1.  For example, English class is using P2 curriculum.    Kids got English dictation already this week.  The scope is several pages in a text book.  The English is in sentence instead of just vocabulary.  Also, Math or Chinese? starts with P1 1 3rd quarter material.

Appreciate if any parents from DBS PD P1 could comment.

Yes, you are right. In English, they are using P2 textbook and has already having dictation in sentence. However, I know most of the primary school had started this more earlier. So, I will not feel surprise. Actually, they only have dictation once every 2 weeks.

For mathematics, they are learning 1-100 in wording and simple addition. The standard is acceptable.

For Chinese, they will only need to do homework after finished each chapter but not much.

For my son, he goes to school happily everyday. The main pressure is only from dictation because he doesn't get used to do that. But teacher just try to encourage him even he cannot do well. This is important.

Thanks for the clarification.  However, I am a bit confused that if most of the schools are using P2 textbook in P1, what textbooks are they going to use in P2 to P6?  Is DBS PD also going to cover all P1 to P6 material in 5 years instead of 6 years?

I think the encouragment that you mentioned is very important to keep kids motivated in learning.

I am not quite sure this yet. I think they still have their own teaching material. This is very common in other school too.

May I ask what textbooks they are using for english in P1?  Is it Longman or Oxford Reading Tree or others? Would like to get a feel of their standard. Thanks.

I am not fortunate enough as being a parent of DBS PD's student.  I would, however, like to point out that even if the school uses textbook of a higher grade, this is not a new phenomenon in primary education.

I recall that when I was a pupil of the English Division (morning session) of Tak Sun Anglo Chinese School (now known as “Tak Sun School”) some 30+ years ago, I studied History in my P.6, and the textbook I used was exactly the same one I used in Form 1.  Apart from History, I also studied Health Education,
General Science, Geography and etc, and all subjects, apart from Chinese Language and Bible, were taught in English.

Of course, I have no idea on the school's current curriculum, and it is regretful that it was changed into a purely Chinese primary school years ago for reason unknown.
