Lower Bound

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB)

Minimum offer levels are 41-42 points out of 45, with 776 in Higher Level subjects. The following Colleges usually make IB offers above the minimum offer level: Churchill, Corpus Christi, and Selwyn.

Some Colleges may ask you to achieve 777 or a higher points total.

You may also be required to achieve 7 in particular subjects.

Standard Level subjects will meet our AS level subject requirements.

Higher Level subjects will meet A level subject requirements.

See our course pages for details of the IB requirements at individual Colleges.

Courses that require Mathematics

For most courses where Mathematics is a requirement, IB applicants are expected to take IB Higher Level 'Analysis and Approaches'. If this option is not available at your school, please contact the College that you wish to apply to directly for further advice and guidance. For Medicine, Natural Sciences (Biological) and Psychological and Behavioural Sciences we recommend Analysis and Approaches for the most competitive application, but Applications and Interpretations will also be considered.

International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme

If you’re taking the IB Career-Related Programme with three Higher Level Diploma subjects, contact your chosen College for advice. They will tell you whether your qualifications are suitable for your chosen course.

International Baccalaureate

A total score of 38, 39 or 40 points (depending on the course) including core points, with 6s and 7s in subjects taken at the Higher level. Please visit the individual course pages for details.

IB Maths
IB students can choose from:

Analysis and Approaches (SL or HL)

Applications and Interpretation (SL or HL)

All Oxford courses that state that they require Mathematics will accept both courses at HL, apart from Chemistry, which will require applicants to have taken either of the courses at Higher Level, or the Analysis and Approaches course at SL, depending on what other subjects they are taking. Please visit the Chemistry course page for further information.

If courses state that they recommend Mathematics, either course will be acceptable.

IB Career-related Programme
The University does not accept the IB Career-related Programme.

LSE

Standard entry requirements

When we assess your application, we equate your IBDP to our A Level requirements. We consider your score in three Higher Level subjects and total point score.

Grade Points

A*A*A 40 points overall including 20 in three Higher Level subjects.

A*AA 39 points overall including 19 in three Higher Level subjects.

AAA 38 points overall including 18 in three Higher Level subjects.

AAB 36 points overall including 17 in three Higher Level subjects.

ABB 34 points overall including 16 in three Higher Level subjects.

For all equivalencies at least 5 points is required in each Higher Level subject. A grade of at least 5 points is not required in the Standard Level subjects.

Where a programme has a required A Level subject, this must be taken at Higher Level.

Where a programme has a preferred A Level subject, this must also be taken at Higher Level to be considered.

Example:

If a programme's entry requirements are AAB at A Level including an A in Chemistry, you need:

36 points overall, with 17 in three Higher Level subjects

Grade 6 in Higher Level Chemistry

No Higher Level subject score below 5

Subject requirements

Where a programme has an A Level subject requirement, the equivalent subject is required at Higher Level. Please see the table below for grade equivalencies.

Grade Level
A* 7 at Higher Level
A 6 at Higher Level
B 5 at Higher Level

Where A Level Mathematics is a subject requirement, either Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is accepted.

Where A Level Further Mathematics is a subject requirement, only Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is accepted.

Where A Level French is a subject requirement, only French B at Higher Level is accepted.

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay

We include bonus points (a maximum of three) awarded for your Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay as part of your overall points score out of 45.

Manchester

International Baccalaureate Diploma

We welcome applicants with the International Baccalaureate qualification.

If you’re studying the International Baccalaureate, you’ll normally be asked to achieve a point score of between 30–39 along with three higher-level subjects. Specific subject and grade prerequisites may also apply. You should check the subject-specific entry requirements for your chosen course as the requirement may vary. Here is guidance for grade comparisons to A-level entry requirements:

A*A*A* = 39 points (IB equivalent)

A*A*A = 38 points (IB equivalent)

A*AA = 37 points (IB equivalent)

AAA = 36 points (IB equivalent)

AAB = 35 points (IB equivalent)

ABB = 34 points (IB equivalent)

BBB = 32 points (IB equivalent)

BBC = 32-30 points (IB equivalent)

BCC = 30 points (IB equivalent)

And for higher level subjects, you can refer to the A-level grade comparisons below as guidance:

A* = 7 (HL grade)

A = 6 (HL grade)

B = 5 (HL grade)

Applicants offering IB Certificates combined with other qualifications (A-levels or USA Aps etc) are considered on a case-by-case basis. We advise you to contact the admissions team, who’ll clarify whether their specific portfolio of qualifications is acceptable for entry onto the chosen course.

A level
AL equiv.
