CDNIS GRADUATES CELEBRATE 2023 IB DIPLOMA EXAM RESULTS

Canadian International School is very pleased to share an early snapshot summary of the IB Diploma Programme results of the Class of 2023:

One student achieved the perfect DP score of 45

Three students achieved the near-perfect DP score of 44

26 students achieved a score of 40 points or higher

10 students achieved the Bilingual Diploma

The overall average is 36.6
100% pass rate

It is the 10th consecutive year a CDNIS student has scored a perfect score on the IBDP exams, with 28 students in total achieving the score over the past 10 years.

We are delighted to share with you our excellent IB Diploma Results for the May 2023 session.

This session saw a return to a pre-COVID-19 assessment model for the IB Diploma, with candidates taking a full suite of examinations in each subject. It has remained a turbulent two years for our Class of 2023, and we are delighted to report on the high-level attainment and personal achievement of our students.

The Class of 2023 achieved an excellent overall cohort average of 37 out of 45 points (before re-marks), with 33% of students achieving 40 points or more and 66% of students achieving 35 points or more. The cohort also received pleasing IB Core results, with 33% of students obtaining an "A" grade in their Extended Essays and 33% of students earning a maximum 3 out of 3 points for Core.

At FIS this year we have achieved a 95% pass rate compared to a world average of 79.3%. The average score of those that passed was 34.1. This compares favourably to a world average of 30.24. A creditable 50% of our students scored 35-40 points and a huge 71% scored 30-39 points.

IB DIPLOMA RESULTS 2023

I am very pleased to announce our IB Diploma results for the GSIS Class of 2023.

All our graduates passed the Diploma and two-thirds achieved 40 points or more with ten students achieving 43 or 44 points and one student achieving a perfect score!

Huge congratulations to all our graduates who have worked so hard to achieve these results.

I would also like to thank all our teaching staff who inspired these students to achieve their potential.

The School's average points score remains consistently strong at 40 points despite a drop in the global average of nearly two points to 30.2. This is the impact of the IB's decision to raise grade boundaries to pre-Covid levels.

An IB Diploma score is so much more than a number. In securing this prestigious academic qualification, our students have also developed excellent independent academic skills that will provide the platform for lifelong learning alongside an internationally-minded perspective empowering them to navigate an increasingly complex world.

Over the next few weeks, we shall support students in processing any remarks that could further strengthen their overall score.

We would like to congratulate each of our 125 graduates of Class of 2023.  Their two years represented so much beyond the IB Diploma. They have become young leaders who champion peace, sustainability and positive change in their respective communities and the world despite the challenging circumstances in the last two years.

This year 118 students graduated from Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC) obtaining an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.  Based on the provisional results of IB Diploma 2023, we are pleased to announce that 25.2% of our graduates have received 40 or more Diploma points in the IB Diploma exams, higher than the world average of 14.7% (in May 2022).  Out of a maximum of 45 Diploma points, 3 graduate(s) obtained 44 with 6 43s.

“Huge congratulations to the graduates of 2023 for these outstanding results.  The graduates and teachers have had to navigate a range of challenges due to Covid during the last two years. These results not only represent your success in terms of the IB Diploma but also in terms of your commitment to UWC education. LPCUWC, established in 1992, is home to a diverse community of over 250 students from over 90 countries.  It is one of 18 UWC schools and colleges across the globe on a mission to make education “a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.”   Its unique approach to teaching-learning is carried out on the three pillars of UWC education: Academics, Education Outside the Classroom, and Residential Life.   Over 40% of students from Hong Kong and overseas in LPCUWC are funded by need-based scholarships.  College Year 2022/23 marked the celebrations of the 30th Anniversary of the College and the 50th Anniversary of UWC Hong Kong Committee.  Hong Kong has had a long history with the UWC, sending the first batch of Hong Kong students to overseas UWC Schools and Colleges back in 1972. In 1992, LPCUWC started operations in Hong Kong.

NAISHK Class of 2023 IBDP results

07 JULY 2023

Our third Diploma Programme cohort from NAISHK achieved an impressive 100% Diploma pass rate which compares very favourably to the global picture of 79%.  This is especially remarkable considering we are a non-selective school.

40% of our students were awarded the Bilingual Diploma for completing the full programme in a language other than their mother tongue. We are so very proud of this achievement.

Principal, Mr Duncan, praised the hard work of both students and teachers in achieving these examination outcomes adding: “I am delighted that our students once again achieved a 100% pass rate and are enjoying such a high measure of individual success despite the significant challenges they have faced throughout both their IGCSE and IBDP studies, challenges which significantly disrupted the normal flow of school life.

Results globally are significantly down on previous years as the examining body, IBO, attempts to re-align the exam outcomes with pre-Covid times.  The global debate about results should not detract from the incredible efforts of students to learn and teachers to teach. Students have worked hard during an extremely difficult time in their secondary education – and we should focus on celebrating their achievements. 40% of examinations were awarded a Level 6 or 7, which is the equivalent to an A or A* at Advanced Level. 10% of our students achieved a world class score of 40 points or above (the equivalent of 4 A* grades), while 30% achieved 35 points or above – the equivalent of three A* grades at Advanced Level. 

We are incredibly proud of all our IB pupils and I would like to congratulate each one of them on their impressive successes. Alongside their IB studies, this cohort have made outstanding contributions to the wider aspects of school life during their time at NAIS Hong Kong.  

We wish them every success as they head off to a wide range of international destinations.”
