美國高中寄宿學校

想申請美國高中（寄宿），有沒有人知道在哪裡可以找到中等(middle tier)寄宿學校嗎？

美國有好多中學可以揀喎，我上年係自己上網遂間遂間睇學校 website, 寫 email to admission 問，半夜打電話去。過程比找英國學校辛苦好多，入學表格又多作文。不過依家阿囡讀得開心，都值得㗎。

或者我哋可以陪您一齊搵，您方便分享以下幾點？
1.   赴美的首要目的丶次要丶then ...
2.   孩子有特殊需要嗎？
3.   孩子喜愛的科目、活動 ...
4.   考慮教會學校嗎？（學費較平宜）
5.   理想校區？which States?
6.   想近城市？ 愛大自然？
7.    3-8萬 一年，預算$幾多？
8.   寄宿即是家長不會陪讀？
9.   孩子只有特區護照嗎？
10. 預計入讀年級？

呀！ 可以從「 NICHE 」這個 website/apps 開始找基本資料。
Last but not the least, 疫情反覆，孩子可能要儘快考些公開試如 TOEFL, SSAT ... 睇吓學校及年級要求，有時要提早好多報㗎。

我個女今年F.4，過美國應該讀grade 11, 啱啱考完SSAT, no result yet.

I’m searching school in East and Northeast States, boarding school 比較好d, but not limited to.  本身有啲 friends’ recommendations, but majority of them are in top tier. I engaged a US consultant to help in application but mainly assist on essay writing and perhaps interview skills.

We are now working on the personal profile, but since she has not much involvement in school clubs and activities & not many other achievements, it is a disadvantage for her to enter top tier school as they will look for all rounded students.

至於預算，我相信大致上都係$55-65K.

我哋本身係天主教，但對於係唔係宗教學校冇特別要求。

Looking for boarding school. Aim to enter Fall 2021, most due date in mid Jan. 所以而家需要盡快選擇邊類型學校。

揀選美國升學，最主要係科目比較多選擇，more flexibility. My girl doesn’t have any special requirement. However, she has not make up her mind on what subjects that she wants to learn. ☹️. Only knowing she wants to continue studying Spanish.   我相信很多學校都有這課程

By the way, she holds American passport, but doesn’t mean she has higher chance than others because they consider her as international student since application come through HK.

Thank you. I searched the ranking through Niche, but not sure if this is very updated. I found that the tuition fee Ida lot cheaper than actual, thus, questioning.
Do u mind PM where is your girl studying now?

Yes, i use "Niche" for basic search. It's good for beginners to have some ideas  : )
For up-to-date info., one must contact the school's inhouse admission Counselors listed in school websites. Send them emails directly, They're all very helpful.
For example,

本來會建議您考慮此校，可是她在 East and Northeast States 的另一端啊！

小女沒有選 SAO 推薦的學校，所以我們沒有詳細跟進。

不用擔心，「 獎項及參與太多校內校外活動 」 都是申請大學時的「附加要求」，尤其是頂級大學。入讀高中後，校內的 College Counselling 會提供指引。這是私立高中的指定動作，甚至係一門學科，小女學校稱之為 Life Skills。有大學 admission office 講明不需另聘 agent 報大學。咁當然你可以趁現在至暑假時研究一下啦。

所以，有些人會説：較有名氣丶進取的高中，會喜歡收身懷絕技的學生，可能對於學校的 profile —— 入 top 大學的 % 有幫助吧。

NICHE 的資料來源大多是家長的rating, 不能儘信, 找學校一定要看學校的profile, 沒有或不能提供的即是野雞學校。

Thank you for your insight. Just curious what's 野雞學校 ?  
Have heard this term for years. Guess it means more than a bad school. Is there some insttitute for the namesake is a "school" but actually not?


Grateful if you'd share some more skills to choose a proper school, other than just website, fb, ig,  email, talking to the staff etc. After all, we'd only select a few for school visits before decision.
