Hi all My daughter feels happy with HKIS since she started from August last year. I just received an interview call from ESF in Midlevels after submitting the application 18 months ago but we have declined. The main reason is that she has been settled well in HKIS which provides very structured literacy and maths program, and we may not consider change until her finishing the primary school (ie 2 years to go).
My question is how shall we choose between the IB stream adopted by ESF (noted lots of “Chinese” champions every year) versus the AP system of HKIS (noted very good US university admission rate)? How shall we decide my kid fits IB or US more , while we prefer to let her study in university overseas? In addition ESF island School or KGV is easier to get in ?

Both schools are fine, I think to keep things simple, if you target US university pick HKIS, if you target UK pick ESF. If no preference just stick with HKIS, it’s always good to have buddies to grow uptogether from primary and so on.

If your kid intends to study university in US, HKIS is definitely a wise choice.
BTW, KGV is very difficult to get in compared with other secondary schools in ESF as this is the only secondary school located in Kowloon area. Island school is relatively easy to get in due to relocation issue.
Very rough thinking is that if she has no interest in Med/Law, I will let her go to US to build up a more all-rounded personality and knowledge, especially if she would like to work in commerce in the future.
Any other idea on choosing between US and UK universities?
My two kids graduated from HKIS 7 and 11 years ago. They respectively studied in a college and university in UK and HK, though both of them had a number of offers from top top US colleges.
Is she proactive and inquisitive? Does she like to ask questions and think outside the box? Does she like structure? Is she shy?
Your answers to these questions should guide you on whether your daughter will benefit from IB reaching style and if she should change to an IB school.
