My  boy started his cello lesson at 5.  Now, he is almost 9.

His first cello was size 1/4 since he was quite tall.  His teacher advised us to buy a cheap one at "粵華", which was about $2,500.

We recently bought his second cello with size 1/2 at a string instrutment shop at about $11,000.

Hello 咁多位        ,

我囡囡自上年尾開始學大提琴, 那時 7 歲幾, 因都算中大碼         , 所以一開始都用了 1/2 既琴, 約 $1500.

明年我都諗住比佢試下考琴試, 試驗一下實力, 希望大家有經驗既, 到時可以過過料比我呢          !

其實好多的琴行都有大提琴班, 不妨自己去問一下. 相信可以找到近屋企的.

幼稚院老師建議俾小朋友自己背個大提琴, 話是適應小一書包壓力的好方法. 自己下也覺得OK, 反正一星期只是一次.

好久無同你chat!如你想比囡囡試考試,試下校際音樂節 JUNIOR GRADE 先, 拉一首歌就OK! EASY D! 但要先看看 首歌如何, 果年我仔拉果首歌好深, 初級好難處理得好好, 有3-4級水平, 但一般都唔會.年細D, 評判同情分多D.

Dear R4,

Most Cello music uses the bass clef (or F clef), which is equivalent to the left hand of the piano.  Much eaier to read than the piano music (since for piano, you have to read the treble clef and the bass clef at the same time).

But some cello music also written in the tenor clef, which may be a bit difficult to read if you are not familiar with it.

Hello bettymomo,

今年校際阿女剛學琴冇耐, 所以未報得到, 但 Miss 都話, 上一年既 Junior Grade 都係 4 級 piece, 有難度;  出年阿女都會試         !  係呢, 妳仔仔有考試嗎?   老師話 Maggie 明年可考慮報考 Grade 4-5, 唔知 Cello 跟 Piano Exam 分別大唔大          !

I think the only difficult part is to get familiar with the Bass clef script.

Thanks. Do you mean that the skills for violin and cello are the same? But the tunes of strings of the 2 instruments are totally different, would it make the kid difficult to re-adapt (i.e. even worse than learning from fresh)?

Just give some faith to your child. I think my girl catch up quite well with the lessons. If your child really like the instrument, just give him/her a try.
