We are currently study in ICS(International Christian School) R1, just got offer from SIS PY1. Could anybody advise?Depend on the past 1 year in ICS, it is a good school, a warm and encouraging environment for kid to learn. The curriculum is based on bible, Chinese is relative weaker.

Both are great schools, congrats! but SIS seems to be strong on the lower primary, but many kids transfer away from G3, as IB score and university placement is so so. ICS seems to be pretty good on AP and university placement?

Those two shools are so far apart, meaning you probably need to move home too? I wouldnt bother to change to SIS for just a few years if I were you.....

Thanks for your comment. We have searched the ICS graduate ceremony 2017 in youtube, and noticed most of the graduates entered US universities, some of them entered top 50. It looks like the result is not as good as before.Do you know what school could the SIS student transferred to?

The two schools are quite different, and given your kid is only at R1 now, not sure looking at university placement is that relevant. Things can change a lot in 10-15 years time. I would consider which school environment and culture you and your kid prefers

To my understanding, SIS has a more rigorous program and strong in academic. My friend’s daughter is now G9 and she said the curriculum is 1-2 grade in advance when compared to her mother school St. Paul coed. My friend daughter is a bit behind and my friend help her out every night to study. It’s an IB school so understanding is quite important. Students in SIS are expected to be proficient in both mandarin and English.
ICS is a smaller school in Christian belief. I always receive positive feedback from parents about school teachers. Since it’s christian school, the teachers are mainly Christian. My friend own a education centre who help students out in IB, ICGsE and other exams, she said ICS teachers are helping out students and that not many Ics students are looking for help outside. Since it is not an IB school, we cannot compared with SIS.
My opinion is, IB requires high proficiency in language and writing. If your child is good any language, surviving in sis is not a problem.
I think the school culture is also very different. Suggest you to think about which one you feel like comfortable.

"Students in SIS are expected to be proficient in both mandarin and English."

Any idea what was the % of students obtaining bilingual diploma in 2018?  Only 25% and 32% in 2016 and 2017 respectively.  This is considered low if the school expects students to be proficient in both languages.

Thank you very much for your comments! As I understand, IB or AP program only started from middle school, does it also make different in kindergarten or primary?
Actually we've started PY1 in SIS last week, our choice was SIS to develop his bilingual skills, not only oral but also written and reading.
We can feel the difference of my son during past 1 year in ICS. He became more and more disciplined and well behaved. Warm family with parents as well. We really appreciated it.
There are two concerns I worried about: 1. the discipline and students behavior after moving to SIS. 2. not sure whether there will be more pressure in SIS if my son is not academically strong. Im not tiger mum, we never give him any out tutoring and don't plan to in the future, in addition, both me and my hub are working.

we don't know actually. He attended the interview by himself. He cannot recall what he did in the classroom. Picking color, playing train were the only things he mentioned. Teacher didn't ask him to write. He was not able to hold the pen when he went to the interview.

Hi,

my son is in ICS G11, it‘s Christian school adopting US curriculum, meaning  G6-8 jr high and  4- yr high school from 9-12, taking SAT exam (even a test center for own students) and AP, gearing toward US or Canada colleges. Of course some gaduates will enroll in UK, Australia.. etc and a few will attend HK universities such as in medi n Law school.I like the whole person development, with caring faculty and supporting community. Some students left for abroad after Jr high, meaning maybe less at High school, still the selection of subjects is wide!

Try to talk to the admission counselor to find out more if it fits your kid. Better understand both your kid and the school, bringing him/her there and listen to response. After all, he/she will spend most teen years there developing into adult. For me building character first!

God bless!
