國際預科文憑:  

3A* for hku medic, seems unexpectedly low this year!
The interview thresold for cu medic is 4A*
I expect the grades for  hku to be higher as the number of their non-jupas quota is less.

沒有像過往般同時提供每科的Best 5和4C+2X數據，與其他大學數據的可比性降低了。如果所有大學都減低公開資料的可比性，到時就難以知道每個學科那間大學收生較高。

Yes, agreed. I would much prefer HKU’s presentation method of previous years.

Now, it’s just hard to compare the actual scores with other universities in Hong Kong.

This year is the first patch of students result after A-level reform in 2015. Roughly, students with 3A* or more is among 1% of all students in A level exam. HKU’s figures reflect most up-dated information.

Approximately 3A* is equivalent to IB score 44 this year.

But the admission grade of cu medic was kept at 4A* with UMS >95%. CU admitted more NJ students, that is why I think hku should have higher admission grades.

4A* with UMS>95% is only for years before A-level reform. A-level for science subjects from 2017 onwards only show grades and no UMS (except maths and further maths ). That is why HKU only counts number of  A*.  I know one school still asked for UMS and seemed to know nothing about A-level reform since 2015.

I asked you just for curiosity. The expert report is more in-depth to explain the rationale behind the equivalence.

Thanks for your reply. I think this year is particularly difficult to compare A-level with IB. My personal experience is that I can only compare those students admitted to medicine (HKU/CU) and from the same college with similar academic performance  since middle school. Some students went to UK since grade 9 and others remained in the same college. It turned out some got 3-5A* in A-level and some got 43-45 in IB this year. Most IB students went to CU and most A-level students went to HKU.

Yes from Hku figures, the number of IB students is small.Do you know the rough / absolute figures of IB/AL students going to medicine of cu or hku?
CU claimed it had admitted 10 (45) and 25(44), but the ultimate median was only 43, I think some did not turn up when school term starts.

Those numbers included GPS and MBChB.
Median 43 for MBChB and not GPS.
