hkmom,實在感激賜教!
本來茫無頭緒,當下明白必需先從閱讀及英語水平著手,說真的,這文章真不像P5的作 ... Sorry for the late reply (and for privacy reasons, I've deleted my kid's writing above)
Well, we haven't specifically trained our kid to get into SPCC. However, he is a booklover I must say. He has developed his reading habit (both English and Chinese fortunately) since he was a toddler. At first (toddlers to pre-school), he read Dora The Explorer, Oxford Reading Tree, Magic School Bus, Geronimo Stilton, ... and later (primary school) Roald Dahl, Ox of Wizard, Harry Potter... He fell in love with Roald Dahl's books after he read The Enormous Crocodile at K3. As a kindergarten kid, he also read Chinese chapter books before entering the primary school (e.g. he didn't know there were 喜羊羊 comics until he saw them at school because we bought 喜羊羊 chapter books before then).
People often sort of "tease" SPCC's asking students questions on how to make a cup of Ovaltine. Well, we do not drill him for science questions. But as far as I remember, he had subscribed 資優數學與科技from the primary school in the past few years and he loved reading them. Occasionally he would run into YouTube clips about everyday science and experiments (sorry I don't have the links). He also watches the educational programs by TVB such as 學是學非.
Sorry that I don't have any clues on coaching him to read, because he reads more readily than his parents.
Btw, don't ask me which primary school he was from. It's always better to understand the "track record" of the school your kid now studies in order to make an estimation of the chance of getting into a certain secondary school. For SPCC, if your kid excels academically, and he/she performs normally (e.g. not too shy) in the selection interview, the chance definitely will be high. I've once heard of a case that a top girl from a prestigious primary school could not answer the science questions during the interview, she still got the school offer. And if your kid has some gifts or talents, you may go for the Special Talent queue (but don't ask me what it means by Special Talent as my kid did not enter the school that way).
Hope the above helps.
