Just review the DSE requirement for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of HKU, it is true that it count for best 6 instead of best 5, so the student want to get a seat in Medicine course should better take 3 elective subjects.

Selection Principles
After having fulfilled the University entrance requirements and programme entrance requirements, our 34 undergraduate programmes will adopt the following principles to consider your admission to HKU. For ‘Best 5 subjects’ principle being adopted, the combination of your best 5 subjects does NOT mean ‘4C + 1X’; instead, it can be ‘3C + 2X’, or even ‘2C + 3X’ (if you have taken more than 2 electives). This arrangement will certainly give you flexibility in making the best combination of scores out of your HKDSE results. The subjects below refer to Category A subjects and M1/M2 are excluded, unless otherwise specified. 4C + 2X Best 5 Subjects Best 6 Subjects
