讀IS班家長，多數係資源足，自己亦有d學識，一般真係向上望，大想頭世界名大學，多過唸補底，會唔會失去留港讀AD或HD機會。

好老實講，我問阿仔佢都吾知。我只能說我有做一般家長會做的事， 主要是支援的角色。

同輩間的良性競爭應該是一個重要因素, 同學之間互相幫忙,  互相提點.

學生對英基都有歸屬感, 就算是不同學校, 都好像是同校一樣。

好嘅老師當然是十分重要, 師兄師姐亦都會鼓勵和提點。

過往都IS家長, 的確大部份如此.

但近年認識多了一些轉投IS家長, 其實佢地目標都係希望子女日後留番讀大學, 而且資源唔算好充足, 轉入IS, 其一為了"逃避"DSE/傳統學制, 其二是覺得讀IBDP"好似"較易入到大學

所以我先開始留意吓, 如果係香港讀國際課程, 但成績唔係好出色時, 如果只能留港發展, 其實出路會如何呢?

讀IS讀得差，和讀local school讀得唔好，之後升學選擇如何，真係無研究過。如果用心栽培，供書教學，一年咁貴學費，讀足12年。香港升格到咁多間大學，到頭來要行AD/HD...聽落都慘情。

如果最後學校只俾學生去考IB Cert, 或考IBDP只拿到剛取得DP既分數.

似乎想繼續升學, 只有出國一個途徑

I have a question.

Many people said if you want to study subjects like law, medicine in HK, you better stay in DSE as universities in HK offer more spaces for Jupas students.

But quite a lot of top students decided to switch to IB in the last two years. According to the newspaper, one girl studied in famous local school and switched to ESF in the last two years and got 42. she determined to be a doctor at very young age and finally got accepted by medical school of CU or HKU (can't remember).

it seems that she would get accepted by medical school if she stays in local school anyway. why would this kind of people switch to IB? Quite a lot of top local students switch to IB in the last two years, is it because they aim at overseas uni?

No, they want to escape from DSE Chinese. You need to get 5 or above in Chinese for an entry to Medicine, but the exam format is not favourable for achieving a "stable score". Omitting Chinese is one way to be sure to get high marks.

I would definitely worry about these parents, as their kids' Chinese level are possibly "way below" their peers at the local higher education institutes.
I would send my kid to community college / boarding school overseas if he/she is not doing well at IGCSE / IBDP. They would be a lot happier to study abroad, given they have studied so many years in IS.
For those who switched after Year 9, their Chinese is good enough to stay in Hong Kong for higher education. Like a previous post said, due to their good English level, they are well-accepted by the local  higher education institutes.
所以我一早就同屋企人講，讀IS是「不歸路」。

Many subjects in HK's Universities only need to count the DSE best 5 subjects scores, so if you perform good in 3 other core subjects and 2 elective subjects, or good in 2 core subjects (most likely will be English and Maths) and 3 elective subjects, that's enough.

But the minimal requirement is, your DSE Chinese should at least obtain level 3.

HKU Medic counts best 6 subjects and CU Medic counts all 7 subjects. First hand information from freshman this year.
So one has to secure high marks in Chinese / Liberal Studies to enter (remember the entrance score is 36 for HKU and 42 for CU, which means an average of 5* in the subjects counted)

Just review the DSE requirement for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of HKU, it is true that it count for best 6 instead of best 5, so the student want to get a seat in Medicine course should better take 3 elective subjects.

大學出國係貴，但而家AD/HD或者副學士的就業出路又好似比較暗淡...
如果家庭財力有限，只可以負擔讀12年IS或大學出國留學。咁又帶來另一個考慮，究竟應該將資源放在前期基礎建設，定係留前鬥後，留黎讀大學用呢！

BK 是中文網，家長又有不少要求不低，目標是神科。
咁，的確，醫，法律，再加其他如 QFin ，Physio 等要求的確是十分高。
但其他 " 普通科" ，只是 HKU 和 CUHK 要求比較高，一般普通 program ，最好 IBDP predicted 有 38 較穩陣有 offer ，offer 的 condition 亦較硬。
其他大學，以今年計，有人 34 PG 已有 PolyU BBA offer
再看數據，香港差不多大部份 IB school 的 average 也肯定有 34 。


IS 的 IB 學生，目標唔會係本地大學為主。
你見佢地多數去外國，是表示佢地選擇去外國，而唔係佢地入唔到本地大學。

"讀得差" 的定義是什麼？
其實如果讀得差，LS 或 IS 也難入心儀大學。
但現在數據顯示，以 IB 計，大部分 IB school 有 34 average 以上。
以 34 分，已經夠入非三大。

24 or 26 分。
我估拿這分的人數比狀元 (45 分) 人數少。
其實，不是太多人是這個水平。
這水平，也未必有外國大學收。

最重要一定是 "小學" 階段。
好多人話  "小學 LS + 中學 IS" ，其實已經失去了 IS primary 那些 priceless experience。

Agree, 我覺得幼稚園小學的IS生活是最人性化最值得回味，我見到我小孩上學的情況我自己真係羨慕到不得了，我小時候冇機會。去到中學大家都要拼搏和開始預備公開試了，而且小孩巳太部分定了型，已錯過了很多東西。當然有些人覺得LS小學加IS中學can get the best of both worlds, 我不會同佢地拗，因為未試過唔會明的。
