我之前響玫小討論區度寫嘅,加左少少補充,我上年小朋友考小一都壓力好大,未入讀玫小前因吾熟悉,個心都好忐忑,依家有D經驗,希望可以回饋,幫到大家。
My kid is studying in the school. Here are some of my observation:
Pros:
1. Small class size, only 1x kids in one class
2. Teachers seem nice and I was told they are not allowed to shout at students as per principal's requirement. My kid's class mistress is kind
3. Usually 4 homework each day, only some times more
4. High English standard
5. Kids are mostly pretty well mannered
6. Exposure to Spanish and mindfulness meditation
Cons:
1. The school lacks transparency. There's no school introductory briefing nor open day. Web site outdated. Low level of parent participation in school. Parent's info day is not v informative
2. Got quiz or dictation almost every week. 3 exams a year. That means kids have to study almost every week - pretty busy but bearable so far
3. Fairly high academic requirement. Uses English exercises designed for native speakers. So u will likely need English tutoring support for your kid. Chinese homework is not as easy as expected. Seems the school wants to bolster the performance of its students with the new principal on board
4. School less international than before. V few western nor mixed kids in junior grades. Up to half of class are mainlanders - the richer ones though
5. Traditional school. How much emphasis on kid's creativity or problem solving skills is an unknown to me. But not a super strict school so kids don't seem highly stressed
6. Less than satisfactory S1 admission to band 1 school (around 30%), but with the new principal, I strongly believe it will improve in the next couple of years
My 2 cents and they are personal opinion so can be subjective. Hope it helps.
總括而言,玫小吾係top school,但若是要讀亦有佢優勝之處,吾使過於擔心。
