I note that all year 6 students have to take a Cambridge primary checkpoint external test, covering all the work students have done during year 4 to 6. I wish to know if my kid transfers from local school to KIS at year 6, will it be difficult to catch up within one academic year? Local school syllabus is different from KIS’. Much appreciated for some advice on this if any moms’ kids have gone through similar path. Thanks!

請問有小朋友是yesr 6入讀嗎？我想知道是否可以在一年內pick up課程考那個Cambridge 的公開試？我怕小朋友由傳統學校轉去，要一年內逼佢pick up好多新課程，仲慘過留在原校，又怕考不過，兩頭唔到岸，有冇過來人可分享吓呢？非常感謝。

My son has just changed from a local school to KIS this Sep and he's in Year 5 now.  The teaching method and curriculum are very much different from the local school.  The format of homework and assessment are also largely different.  i.e. my son learns Ancient Greek history in social studies.  Strong adjectives, powerful verbs and various poetic techniques in English.  Also many reading and writing every week.  Guess it'll take some time for your kid to adapt to it before he/she can take the public exam.

Thanks for the advice. In that case, it will be a very demanding year for my kid I if she has to adapt to new school environment and at the same time pick up new curriculum. I don’t know if she can handle it

其實個試係指標式咁睇小朋友學習程度，對佢升班無任何影響（嚴格來說 KIS 係一定升班既）影響在於你自己點睇而已。

當年我仔考時，考出既成績不算好，佢仍是安全快樂咁升到今年 Y8 了。學校結果出左之後就咁派個成績單比仔拎回家，亦無在班上討論過，亦不見老師因為成績既野而有任何不同。因此我無任何壓力。咁家長無壓力，細路自都唔覺壓力，也許呢個就係 LS 同 IS 既分別。

第日去到高中時都會再有類似考試，在我，我覺得無乜特別，一個階段而已。

非常感謝大家的意見！即是若果那個公開試「不合格」，也能升KIS Year 7嗎？。我其實不介意個女考成點，因為要不足一年時間pick up全新課程真的有難度，所以如果不影響升班，我就放心好多（provided that學校year6收了我女），因為我係怕pick up唔切又升唔到year 7, 到時又轉唔返LS或者揾唔到其他IS就超慘了。

Guess your kid can finish some simple homework if he wants.  But as I know, most of the kids prefer playing with friends during the recess.    Also for the homework in project format, it really takes time to prepare.

i think it should be ok provided that your kid is an average performer in LS. English may be a bit difficult because the Cambridge level is higher than local level.  


It is only a check point to know where the strength and weakness of the students.  It doesn't affect your kid to progress to secondary school.  So, if you can just let your kid to try it, you may realise his/her potential is greater than you can imagine.
