University in UK or US?

I help my friend ask and I also want to have reference for my daughter in the future. My friend's daughter is now studying in local school and is planning for her daughter for further studies. Why do you prefer to send your kids to UK universities or vice versa?

I would prefer sending my kids to UK to USA because UK is more safe.

I would choose US. More all around.

這問題永遠没有答案。　以読書為重的話、就要看小朋友想読邊科。　２個国家的大学強弱科不同。　安全来説、英国似安全D.　分化方面、両国又完全不同。

My kid is simply too lazy to do subject SAT in the midst of the busy IB programme so she has decided not to apply for US colleges.  She loves art n humanities n I think UK suits her better too.  

Some of her friends who aim high left HK for good high schools which groom kids for Ivy Leagues.

I think SAT (SAT 1 in particular) is a huge hurdle to a lot of students, and particularly to students in Hong Kong who have English at second language level only. And then not to mention the non-academic achievements/involvements that are expected from most US universities. For the UK, students can focus with their school grades.

我最近才獲悉以下情況, 夫家侄女是在香港讀完高中, 然後到英國一流名校讀BioScience, 三年Bachelor+一年Master, 我本以為擁用居英權的她, 是交本地生學費, 卻原來沒有這個優惠.  又, 畢業了, 有志繼續升讀Ph.D, 大學方面卻未能提供奬學金, 她要以國際生身份支付Ph.D學費.

侄女自幼是名校高材生, 我相信, 以她的成績, 在美國的話, 就算升讀名校Ph.D都必定能拿到full rides.

所以個人的一點觀感是, 如果只限於讀大學, 留英是個好選擇, 如果有志更上一層樓, 美國會更佳.  美國大學在這一方面很慷慨, 讀Ph.D, 給予full rides, 不管私立大學抑或州立大學, 只要你有能力, 是不看國籍, 只看人材.

另, 我兒在美, 今年升大四.  他是美籍, 拿全額奬學金, 入讀美國一流私立名校.  無可否認的一點是, 美國一流私立大學資源豐富, 他大二大三的暑假, 連續两年都是通過就讀的大學拿到美國大公司的summer intern.  這些公司招攬暑期實習工, 真的給予他們學習機會, 就算只是10個星期的工作, 他們都積極培養人材, 而且給予高薪.  

我曾問過兒子, 他那些非美籍的同學, 是否能拿到同樣的summer intern offer.  兒子肯定的回答說, 只要是大公司, 招聘intern, 他們是不管你甚麼國籍, 所有同學, 都是公平競爭.

還要看甚麼科目, 例如讀 Veterinary Medicine, Speech-Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Law 就 UK

The path of entry is quite different. I reckon maybe attend some talks / seminars to see which path is better for subjects and future career.

上星期跟我叔仔個仔傾過，佢仲有一個semester就畢業，佢話係美國讀理科science等讀得好嘅好受歡迎，好多大公司甚至願意幫忙申請入籍嚟recruit呢類人才
