My son is currently studied in local school. My husband and I are thinking to send him to international school. Right now we have narrowed down our choice to 2 schools and one of them is CAIS.
Can parents please kindly share more on the school?
Workload and assessment?
Any other fees except tuition fee? e.g. tour? extra-curricular activities?
Do we have to pay the debenture?

Are the kids happy in school? How's their discipline? How's their academic standard?

Thanks in advance!!!

You have to pay a debenture (or whatever it is called). Previously the amount was  $250,000 and now it is said to be increased to $400,000.

They would not say if it is refundable or not. When you are in, you buy it. When you leave the school, you will sell it.

Is it refundable?
"An ICN can only be held by a Hong Kong resident. Its holder is entitled to nominate one child for enrolment at the School. An ICN is transferable but is non-interest bearing, non-refundable and unsecured. The most recently available purchase price for an ICN was set at HK$250,000. Future face values and subscription prices are anticipated to be higher. Refer to Parent’s Forum (20 Nov 2015), page 16. To safeguard transferability, a quota exists on the total number of ICN’s available. Students not covered by a capital note or certificate (below) will require coverage by an annual capital levy."

http://www.cais.edu.hk/school-expansion/funding/

Unless you think their enrollment will tank between the time your child enrolls and the time your child leaves, it's a fairly reasonable assumption that there will be no issues in finding an incoming parent to transfer the ICN to when your child leaves.

Cmir, I am not going to share the debenture thing as other parents shared above.

About the workload, it is fair for a student. My girl is studying in grade2, she has English homework once a week, Chinese homework everyday. English dictation on the vocabulary every week (it is a common practice to have vocabulary test for an IS) and Chinese test every month.

I am a parent who really concern her Chinese, so I have compared the Chinese standard with other strong Chinese IS like KCIS & VSA, most parents said the Chinese standard of most of the CAIS students is not bad.

Tuition fee is shown on the school website and it covered almost everything including school textbook and all teaching material, I cannot recall any extra item I paid in the past year. But of course we need to pay for lunch, school bus in addition to the school fee. Pls be reminded that you will need to consider school trip as they move to higher grade which may incur extra money.

About the students, as the school really emphasize Christian and moral education, so kids are in general behave quite well. They are active and sometimes naughty though, not bad in nature from my observation.

Hope the above information helps.

Thank you so much esther for your sharing. I share the same thought that Chinese is important.  That's one of my main concern. And do you know if the new campus will be ready by 2017? or any possibility of delay?

School required parents to pay 1st half payment by Oct 2015 and the balance payment by Mar 2016 for year 2015-16 student.

But this arrangement may not be applied for the coming years.
