點解唔讀埋先去睇下呢個世界呢？好趕咩？如果只係呢個理由，我覺得不能成立，好牽強！但如果有另一D好重要既理由，又不能錯過的話，咁就可以商量喇！

我咁睇：如果佢有好強的目標及計劃，好清楚知道自己想做乜，不妨寫過計劃書，然後同父母申請及傾。

有時細路在學時間好長，會漸漸冇咁珍惜，反而有一年GAP YR去做下嘢，知道自己不足及工作辛苦，之後再去讀書會更加起勁。但大前提是有目標及計劃，因為亦有可能hea左一年，咁就好浪費。

Well usually gap year refers to the year in between college and university.  It really depends on what he/she wants to do.  My cousin took a gap year and he said he learnt much much more than at school.  He worked in a lab in London and said that was part of his preparation for future career.

較少人 Final year 先 take gap year, 好似其他人所講，多數在升大學前。


我不知道你侄兒的真正原因，但他有沒有考慮過申請六個月或者十二個月的實習工作，會遲咗畢業，在任何僱主的角度都會是正面。


現在才申請可能太遲了！

Then that is not "gap year".
Like other said, gap year is taking a year off before entering university.
This is extremely common, especially for young people in the US.
President Obama's daughter is also taking a gap year and will enter Harvard in 2017.

For people that take time off after graduate and before moving on to post grad, they usually call it "year out'.
Also very common for students intended to study professional programs like law, medicine, architecture, etc. in the US.
The reason is that students need to write extremely challenging exams like LSAT, MCAT, etc to apply to the professional programs, and many students actually take time off to study. Most students would work part time to earn money to cover expenses.


Personally, I have no problem with my kids to decide what they want to do after the graduate.
I made it clear to my children that I will no longer support their expenses after they graduate. The best I can do is provide a room for them to stay if they decide to come back to Hong Kong.

If your nephew can find his own ways to fund his own trip, I do not see why his mom can say no.
He would be at least 21 to 22 when he graduate.
