ESF comprises about 6 secondary schools, each over 1,000 students, more than HKIS, CIS, GSIS, ISF and CNDIS combined. The most important difference is that ESF is designed as a non-selective school system. The original idea is that it will accept all applicants in an established order of priority provided they fulfill the admissions criteria. Unlike other international schools, ESF does not (and is not supposed to ) use academic performance as an admission criterion.
We must also be careful about making comparisons by using "average". Take an example, HK has an average income per capita (per person) higher than most western countries such as USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and even Japan. What does it tell us and how useful is that figure to compare the live of an average HK person and the live of an average American? What good is the average figure if you don't belong to the top 5 % of the population in HK?
Almost all students I have come across from the above schools say they enjoy school, have a good time and have no problem in finding a place at a decent university. Is that what you want?
