St Joseph - homework / dictation

1) Is St Joseph considered to be a very demanding school with lots of homework? What's the approx. time to finish the homework for P1?

2) How often is English and Chinese dictation (once a week dictation e.g. one week Eng and next week Chinese? or Eng and Chinese both in the same week)?

3) From a scale of 1 to 10 difficulties, how would you rate the level of difficulty of St Joseph?

I have heard from friends of friends that St Joe is acedamically very difficult and demanding. I just want to know from actual St Joe parents feedback from this forum to know how the situation is now.

1) Not very demanding, around 1-2 hours can finished P1 homework

2) one week Eng and next week Chinese

3) If 1 is easy, 10 is very difficult, I will pick 8

Thanks for your response SC. 1-2 hours of homework seems quite a lot for P1, isn't it?  I don't know how the other local schools are, but does that imply other schools have more homework and will need more than 2 hours to complete for P1?

Compare to many schools, I think 1-2 hours is not too heavy.

My kids are in P2.  They could complete some homework during their self study class.  There are about 4 to 5 homework a day.  They still have plenty of time for reading and play.

That's very good to know. We only have 20 pts and hope he can get into P1 for the first round that will be announced next Monday.

Once in P3, they have more hwk, the content of dictation has been getting more difficult.  As such, if boys are disciplined enough to do some of hwk at self study, then it would only take them 0.5-2 hrs (a range of hwk from very few to very much) to finish hwk at home,  .  

Compared to P3, P1 and P2 are so honeymoon, and easy to handle for average students.  SJPS seems to scale up the difficulty, so from P1 and P2 perspective, one cannot see clearly the academic level of demand.  P5, P6 are the more critical level to measure.  When you hear sjps is demanding, you should ask which grade those parents are talking about.  I doubt they're lower primary parents.

Very true! Especially English and Chinese subject, feel much demanding than other school
