Re: the developmental sequence of a normal child
Sorry for my straightforward to express some views. I think the following list is only for reference which cover the areas in general. Supposedly, those areas could be managed competently already for a normal 3-4 years old child but not for the purpose of counting back when the child could be capable to gasp the skills, which is to say, a 3-4 yrs old child at least is able to perform the following tasks. It is no doubt that more complicated or advanced techniques could also be performed excellently by some children, this category might be the top % in the range. The following list does not indicate the range. I totally disagree with those so-called professionals to have the checklist on their forms which require the answers from the children exactly the same as theirs. Since the research is limited, the range might be varied from one to one professional which becomes either loose or strict measure.
My poor little girl can perform 90% or above for the following items which she is able to manage well or above the requirements from list since 1.5 years but some of items she only can perform steadily after 3. The remaining 10% is the part of concept (left, right, top, bottom etc) and question of what & why, and fortunately she seems to gasp them gradually. Nevertheless, she is still named as ‘Autistic Features’ when she was 2.5 years old because :
She got eye contact with me not enough as per the doctor observed even she would come to approach/hug me or greet the doctor;
She could not play the doll to sleep on bed according to the form;
She was afraid of baby crying outside the corridor at the time of checking;
I will quote here Dr. T a sentence which I totally empathy: 我對這個含糊不清的名稱如何深惡痛絕 -真的要問給予這個名稱的人因著甚麼原因而作此診斷才知道在他心目中的"自閉傾向"是甚麼.
