I know there are baby version woodwinds, are there baby version brass also?

That's not quite fair. The examples you quoted had learnt something before their 'major' instrument. I know you are going to take horn exam and quoted quite a number of horn examples.

Brass, on the other hand, like singing - you know. If you have strong lung capacity and good use of abdomen air, you can play well in younger age. I know young kids can hardly have these characters, but in Hong Kong some do have. Especially for those who had vocal training and atheletic education in young age. These kind of training are unlikely to be found in other countries but very common in Hong Kong. Hong Kong kids are miserable.....

I can also quote two Chinese horn players in Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. If you look at their profile, they start learning Horn at age 6 through Music Office.

I thought you are asking for changing the exam date...., probably is your friend's request.

Anyway, miserable that many Hong Kong kids learns instrument young in Hong Kong. Even if we don't talk about hard things big winds like bassoon and brass, let's just focus in violin and piano..... I think all those 1/16, 1/8 violins are appearing because of the need of Hong Kong. In our young age, 6 year kids were taking full size violins, there were no such small things. Nowadays, how many genius violinist in Hong Kong generated?

I would think no.

some schools like Alliance Primary in Kowloon Tong and St Stephens in Stanley require each student to pick up one orchestral instrument from a list of strings, woodwind and several percussion instruments.

kids who already are learning those prior to the interview do'nt seem to stand a higher chance because as you have been explaining here , that starting early doesnt guarantee success.

On the other hand, kids reaching certain academic abilities, seem to be favoured by the schools.  The schools normally won't expect much musical achievements from ordinary students as such.skills or talents could be attained later.

That is unless your child is a prodigy.

If i were you, I would spend time on English Chinese and PTH instead FOR the purpose of P1 entrance.
