When you fill up the application form of LPCUWC, there is one question asking you;

Type of Application (click one only) *
I want to be considered for a UWC on a scholarship basis; or
I want to be considered for a UWC on a full-fee basis

That tells the different type of students as referred in the result table.

If student applied for remit/scholarship basis, they will usually get $2000 scholarship (only $500 this year) when they got accepted. Further more, school will assess the student's family economic background to give certain % of fee remission.

By the way, there is  full scholarship, or half scholarship offered by overseas UWC colleges on no mean basis.  The avaiabilities are various every year, quite depend on  overseas UWC's  final budget in that year.   The chosen students will be awarded full scholarship, or partial scholarship (let say 50%) luckily.   Families have prepared to afford the full school fee originally, and I know many would choose to contribute back the money to UWC so as to support others students to join UWC, especially those who need it financially.

It is ture UWC movement spirit........and the right thing to do.

All students are equal and lucky enough with the overseas scholarship, or without it.

I don't think average income and assets of lower middle class or above would be qualified for any scholarship.  It would be better to leave the financial aid for students who come from grass root families.

I know serveral HK students having full finanical aid last year.  They are very happy and don't mind to tell it.

The school eagers to find students who are enthuastic to join UWC , but can't afford the fee.  The board would find a way to support them , and give everything to help.

LPCUWC offers aids for HK students on mean basis, that means your family income must be qualified to have it .  Sometimes parents misunderstand it and call it full scholarship, and so....

Two years ago when my daughter entered UWC, there was only one place for full scholarship offered by Pearson College (Canada) among the 13 UWC Colleges. But there was a prerequisite that the student shall be over 16 at the time he/she enters the college.

In addition, LPCUWC is the most "international" school in HK.

There will have 16 international schools students (age 16-19) joining the 24 hour race for raising fund against human trafficking in South East Asia. The running is around Lugard Road at the Peak from 9am 14 Nov (Sat) to 9am 15Nov.

If parents really want to know more about international school student cultures and  their interaction with each other,  please make a visit or hiking to see and support them.

Actually this year we have 22 schools including local school La Saiile Boys , 600 students involved, joining the 24 hours run race, and finally raising the total fund of HKD1.5 million.  All initiative and work are done by teenagers 16 to 19 years old.  They are amazing. And quite many have given brief speeches better than many CEO of public listed companies.  Wow, they are parents' dream sons and daughters.  Why should we still bother about how good they can master in English, Chinese, and so... and so.  if you have children like them.

They seem ready to conquer the world. I am really proud of them.

Happy for their parents.

If anyone want to have perception of their kids future, they must go to see it on on their own next year.

This morning at 6am, I happened to have a walk around the peak as usual, and came across a lot of the students doing the race or working as facilitators.

West Island, South Island, FIS, KGV's ..... I met a lot of them.  They all seemed very friendly, energetic and determined in running the race.  They set up camps on the road side and the condition was tidy without even a tiny piece of rubbish being found at a place that it shouldn't belong to.

At 6AM, at dim light on the trail, two happy girls who worked as facilitators and should be tired after working some hours suddenly said in high volume  "Hi good morning!" nicely and happily to me  --- a stranger.

I just thought their manner was just too good... they just had that kind of pleasant etiquette that you could hardly find from a local student.

Kudos to all those who have participated in this meaningful event, especially to the two girls who said "Hi Good Morning" to me!
