Do people know HOW you get into being a translator?
For example, if you want to get into "translation" at a local university, you had better be really good at both chinese and english at the same time.
You do not go to translation degree program to LEARN french or russian from lesson one, and then 3 years later you are a french-english or russian-chinese translator!
For the majority of local Hong Kong students, they probably can only be english-chinese translators (and there are probably already lots around in Hong Kong and China).
Even for international school students, most only started learning another language (french, spanish, etc) at Year 7. And by Year 13, most cannot have the standard that qualify them to being a translator.

Yes, those translators are also responsible for conference interpretation and their company is located in Virginia, home to many translators/interpreters, they are polyglots, not just bilingual. They have also sat for interpret certificate some years ago and their company's customers are mainly from China and France, so they are the holy grail that the company pursuits. I remember that their starting salary is around $ 7,000 six or seven years ago.Like what I have said earlier on, the salary range can be very wide, some can earn $33,000 a month while some can only earn $4,000. But the more languages you know, the path for you is wider.

I know, but this is a Hong Kong forum, so I did some calculations to make things easier, I am sure that's the sum, perhaps those employees I mentioned are too fortunate and a rare case, but it exists. Like I said, the salary gap is wide.

If that is a rare case, then it is a rare case.
We do not quote rare cases to show other people what the norm would look like.
