Want to seek some opinion too. My boy is currently in victoria kindie. And we also received esf offer.

We are just a local family, and we want our kid to have a less stressful childhood (That's why we aim iB/ international). We hope he can have a good command of English and we are trying our best to provide support, at the same time we hope to have an acceptable level of chinese. Shall I stay in Vic for potential priority to enter VSA (150/~700 Vic graduates) or change to ESf for an interview priority and thus a perceived privilege to enter eSF primary or RC?   Thanks for the advice!!

Your boy is in K1 or PN at Vic - does he need to repeat K1 at ESF?
Also, how do you and your boy like Vic so far?

ESF kindergarten pupils enjoy interview priority to ESF primary schools including RC, it is a real and not a perceived advantage, so if you are targeting ESF primary schools, you know which to choose.

Thanks for the info.. I mean..getting an interview means a perceived higher chance of getting a place? Or many get the interview chance but not the actual offer?

I guess no one knows for real, it is 100% or 0 chance for each particular individual.

Consider the following questions:

1. Other than the "excellent English at ESF" factor, is there any area in which you think ESF is more suitable for your boy as compared to Victoria?

2. If you receive offer from both ESF primary and Vic primary, which offer would you accept?

Personally, my answer to question 2 above is "probably Vic primary" and to question 1 above is "both are good schools, but the only advantage of ESF over Vic (for us) is the more intensive exposure to English" -- however, we would not go to ESF just to learn English, for the reason stated below.

I would choose Victoria, since learning Chinese is way more difficult than learning English. Attending regular English classes at Victoria (and those after-school activities taught in English), mingling with English speaking frds in Hong Kong, plus a few years' study overseas at a decent US or UK college would be able to bring the kid's English up to a close to native level, but not the other way around.

Also, the location of Hillside is not convenient for us -- school bus would be the only choice.

Nevertheless, since both schools are good - congrats! There will be no wrong decision no matter how you decide:)

Thanks so much for the detailed analysis. Yes I agree with u..at this moment, I also think VSA suits my son better. Location-wise and language-wise. for me, eSF is superior to VsA in terms of English and student mix: more truly 'international'. I am just worried that I choose a school with a closer-to-0 chance rather than a closer-to-100 chance...

You will find that nowadays all priorities are for interview only. Even those who spend HK$500k ($400k for RC) to buy ESF's Nomination Right will only get an interview priority and not a guaranteed place, I guess people won't spend that kind of money if they think it is only a perceived higher chance.

Is it true that 'pm offer' students get a lower priority (compared to am offer) to get in ESF primary?
I heard so ...
