大家好,我係新手媽媽,BB 宜家 6 個半月大,想第時送佢入 IS,但一啲野都唔識,想請教各位媽媽!因我一 ... I am glad you are starting to do the research now instead of later. There's a few things you need to do right away:
1) Some schools' application begins from birth: GSIS, Kellett, DBIS, YCIS, Harrow etc. Find 1-2 that you find suitable for your family and register NOW. The rest of the research can wait ;)
2) Decide on the family language as soon as you can. If you are going for some English heavy IS, then at least one parent / caretaker (who should have near native level English; Filipino English is far from acceptable) should speak to the child solely in that language. Each person should stick to the language chosen; if he/she switches language all the time, that would confuse a young child. If neither parent has near native level English, than consider an English speaking tutor, or enroll in daily classes for the young child with minimum travel distance.
3) Remember NOT to use any screens to teach language. Young children should have real human being as language mentors, and before the age of 2: ZERO screen time according to American Pediatric Association and 香港衛生處. TV, iphone, ipad, computer etc will only deter a child's social and linguistic developments, to say the least.
Once you understand what you are looking for, target about 5-6 schools, with different levels of entry difficulty. You need some backups and some schools you really dig into. Remember, application fee for each school can cost you $1000-2000 or more. Many schools starts from Reception (K2) but some starts from K1 or K3, so you have about 2-3 years to train and prepare your child. Enjoy your BB's childhood and have fun!!
