YMCA year one or CAIS grade one?

How old is your kid?  Did you get the offer from both schools already?  Or you are considering the application?  Kids can enter YMCA year one after K2 but CAIS Grade one is usually promoted from its own Prep class.  Or you can apply and enter after K3 or equivalent.  It seems to me you are not comparing apple to apple.  Please elaborate your situation.

What YMCA do you refer to here?

If you mean SWCS YMCA of Hong Kong Christian School, I may say it is not an international school.

we are now studing in CAIS prep and just got the offer from YMCA swcs year 1. I like CAIS and also know the it is well-known than YMCA. but CAIS recently change the Debenture amount from 250000 to more than 400000. and will increase the school fee and annual levy, I think we can support one child to study in CAIS, but I still have a little daughter, when she goes to cais the Debenture may be up to more than 1000000, so make us consider another one.

Understood how u are caught in the dilemma! So, when money is an issue, it will keep its being until CAIS changes it's debenture scheme (which looks rather unlikely), or your family finance has significant change (which you know better than any of us). Kids education is no doubt important, but your plan B (YMCA) is not that bad if plan A would put your family into a very bad status in terms of money. So, don't let the current lottery-feel offer blind your judgment - for short and long run.

Thanks for your advice. the deadline for confirming the YMCA offer is Feb 9 and CAIS will held a meeting with parents to discuss the Debenture issues on Feb 7. hope that I can make a final decision after the meeting.

Is the levy needed if I have the debenture ? How much is the levy now?

the annual levy should be 10% of Debenture.
when we applied the school , the school told us that the Debenture is hkd250000, if you don't buy Debenture , annual levy should be hkd25000.
however. we are (2014/15 students) are not eligible to buy the Debenture this year, we can only but next year, next year Debenture is more than hkd400000. which is far different from when we applied

Oh having two is usually a concern. I've got two too! Why u mentioned future debenture will be $1m!? I think your decision would highly depends on how true is it....

Is Christian education important to you?  CAIS would come out ahead on this one as we asked about the faith requirement of the teachers, and they left us the impression there wasn't one.

Is campus important?  CAIS when it's built, will have a much better campus. But it comes at a price.

Is thru train important?  I don't think YMCA is, although they have affiliates.

Is an established school important?  YMCA is rather new.

Is cost important?  YMCA will be cheaper, but their tuition went up 20% for this upcoming year compared to last year, and I suspect they are trying to figure out their finances as a new school, so further increases are possible. They had also talked about a levy in the past, although they have removed it for now.  But who knows where CAIS is heading with their tuition and debenture.

Really? There is a meeting on 7 Feb? My son is in Prep 2014/15, but i dont know there is a meeting? May I know more?
