The difficulty in adapting has more to do with the method of teaching then the level of academics of the school, as Montessori kids are more self-motivated, get to chose their own work in their own timing, rather than following lectures & large group functions. It is best to finish IMS primary before moving onto a secondary IS. The teachers does provide adaptation lessons to P6 graduates so that they can continue to thrive in other secondary schools. From what I heard IMS graduates do well in other secondary schools, but haven't heard much about those who move within the primary levels. Unlike kindergartens which do flashcards (a more short term benefit approach), Montessori is a marathon in comparison. It is best that a child stays in a montessori setting (including in school and at home) for at least 3 years at a time (ie. K1-k3, P1-P3, P4-P6); that's the reason why kids has the same teacher for 3 consecutive year as well. |
