my boy is CDNIS student and will be in secondary school next year. With considering budget, I apply ESF as well. But my friend told me that i cannot have government sponsor in school year 15/16 and the school is also not as good as cdnis because SIS is very relax.  Can anyone give me an advise ? thx

You can check on web it states clearly when there would be no subsidy. I remembered the last year is 15/16.

Only Year 1 students entering in 2016-17 will not be subsidised since this is the year that the subvention will start to phase out. All other year groups will not be affected no matter the students are newly admitted or not. You can check with ESF admissions. They will explain to you.

SIS is not a relaxed school. Having said that, there are students who are in the easier pathways I think may have less homework. My kid is in year 8 now and has homework everyday, assessments almost every month, when they finish a unit. People in his class are competitive and getting good results in assessments.

thanks for your info, I called the admin office and the staff also can't tell if a new student in y7 will have government subsidies or not, i am really surprised about his feedback, he said that a lot of details is not yet confirmed.  On the other hand , my son has been learning traditional Chinese, not simplified one. so he complains about going to esf. Anyone has this experience to share ?

my friend's son transferred to SIS and he was learning traditional chinese before SIS as well and he didn't have any problems adapting.  You can still write your work in traditional chinese.  what exactly is your son concerned about?

I feel for your son. It is not healthy for a child to have constant changes but it is understandably unavoidable at times. I too agree that Chinese should not be an issue as ESF's curriculum should be a bit easier, and going from traditional to simplified is not as difficult as the other way around. I am sure too that your son will come up with another 'concern' soon, as he is not technically unprepared but emotionally unwilling. It is better to work on that asap.

I know a wonderful lady who in her youth intentionally failed an entrance exam for a prestigious high school (which her parents enrolled for her) simply because she loves her existing school too much. (She turned out well graduating from her existing school though, and have become a well known and influential lady in the society.)
