What is your target / ideal Primary & Secondary education?
Local school or International school?
What is your own parenting style? Have you read / practice Montessori philosophies at home? Can your child focus well? Any anti-social issues? Can your child comply and sit still in a large class setting, or prefer to choose one's own work?
True both are outstanding schools. It really depends on which one suits your family and your child better.
thank you for your comment. it is really some questions I need to think of. my son is now 15 months, be honest I can't really see which style of education is good for him yet! can IMS teaching method apply to local primary school?
For PN you should apply to both because they are both hard to get in. Even at 15 months you can sort of tell if your child can focus well or not, say in playgroup setting is he the one sitting down listening to the teacher or run around the room crazy (usually it's somewhere in between but you can somewhat compare him with other kids). Socially it's too early to identify; after age two you can see if he likes to play by himself or seek out other kids.
However, for the IS/LS question it is something you really need to ask yourself in terms of your belief system, family background and education philosophy. Read up on EK on LS vs IS to gain more perspectives. I'm not sure how well IMS transitions into LS as I am pro IS from the start. You can tell St. Cat usually leads to LS & IMS is IS. Also, the way you'd raise your child would be quite different if you are to adhere to the teaching methods of the school. 家校合作 in providing a congruent environment is very important, esp in a Montessori school, so you need to ask yourself if you can be a Montessori parent. I was somewhat practicing the Montessori methods and philosophy at home since my boy was a few months old, and he started in a Montessori playgroup from age 1.

I am curious how you can tell what teaching method is appropriate for different personalities. My daughter is only 1 but since in HK we have to apply to PN /K1 like one year earlier, its hard to see what schools are better fit for their personalities at such a young age. I noticed that in playgroups she rarely sits still and listen, and always want to crawl around, walk around. Does that mean a montessori type education is more suitable than traditional?
We send her to both a montessori playgroup and a more traditional playgroup (circle time, flashcards type). But honestly its hard to say which she enjoys more. There is so much good support backing montessori, but are there personality types or learning styles that do NOT fit montessori?
sorry i wrote a lengthy reply TWICE today, each took me almost an hour to write, but EK just has too many bugs and wouldn't post my reply!!!!! i'm fed up so unless EK fix the bugs i shall not spend so much time trying to be helpful but ends up wasting my time.
有心人請舉報this post so that EK knows about it. p.s. It has something to do with Firefox as i can only post this message after i switched over to Safari, which is plain silly.
