Why are music lessons more expensive at higher grades?

香港也有老師劃一價的。
我認為有可能是很多家長想小朋友學琴，只是想看看他們有沒有興趣。初級平平地試下不太難。很多小朋友學到三四級就放棄，會繼續下去的，學費貴些亦甘心。

One possible explanation is abundance of supply - there are many teachers/part-time teachers out there who can teach only lower grades.
I'm curious ... do teachers ever dispose a lower grade student (tactfully, of course) to free up the time slot for a higher grade student?

Yes, agree.But, they are ruined by not only their teachers. Many parents can't tell the difference, and get lessons not for the music.  Quasi-teachers are cheaper, although not better value.  Students waste time with them for a few years, feel frustrated, and then drop out at around the same time the parents' original reason for getting lessons no longer relevant.  These teachers never have to tell the parents they can't teach their kids any further.  Convenient isn't it?!

我很認同你說法，我是收劃一的。教低級跟教高級其實一樣要付出時間和心機。琴行以低價學初級吸引新生試學，其實私人老師無需跟風。一些經驗尚淺新老師無奈也跟著做，因家長太多比較。

我的孩子從來就是一個價至FT.....以上！
只有年度總調整！
不同層次自然不同的收費.....
是否物有所值見仁見智！總有客觀的事實。
小朋友做好自己丶作為教樂器者又何嘗不應該.....
有心不代表一切、力有不及又何嘗可以上望！
老師的進步同樣可以嚇你一跳！一位老師能收多少學生有數得計、參差難以避免!

如果所有級別劃一收費，琴行／老師可能取其平均數，整體調高學費，那時可能嚇怕很多初學者。

高低級數不同學費不代表師資的高低，基本上，一個有演奏級資歷的老師，都會教一至八級。除非是一些知名音樂家，他們才只教高級學生。

老師教高級學生時調高學費，與各行各業一樣，是基於「工作所運用到的技能與自己的身分和資歷比較切合」時，叫價就會高。

比如，一個醫生，幫你包扎個傷口，和幫你照個X光，費用不一樣，（縱然照X光比幫你包傷口可能更輕鬆）。這是因為包傷口並不會運用到他高層次的知識水平。

琴行、私人教授的分別......從來都沒改變!
只是近年學的人多.....孩子之間的進度比較差別太大! 功力問題。
”好"老師不會只收大的,眼見許多高層次的小朋友都是從小跟著陪養.....
由幾歲到現今廿多歲! 只是要跟到這類老師是孩子本身的天份和緣份、際遇!

you cannot compare the amount of training needed for a teacher to be able to teach at high grades to that of teaching at low grades, those who are qualified to teach at high grades are of course able to charge a higher price.
