I find your post fascinating...

Having a good ear certainly helps but surely  motivation is also a critical factor ie the desire to fit in, to land a good job etc.

In Australia at least where I am from, immigrant teachers have  reported being discriminated by their students because of their accents.  Not only Asian teachers but Irish and North American teachers. This is particularly prominent in regional schools where the general population may not be so diverse.

Just my two cents worth.

You are referring to Canadian passport holders, right?

Based on their website, I'm not sure if local passport holders would even be granted an interview? I'm interested in this school, would be happy to know otherwise!

Of cos I was discriminated, especially during my time at boarding school.  However as an adult now, I am not too bothered by it.  It's probably my personality anyway, and I would like my children to be proud of who they are.  We are Chinese after all and I am proud of being Chinese!

口音的問題, 真係人人接受能力不同.

我好簡單, 要求好低:

有陳冠希的程度, 應該是native 或者極接近native, 那是很好.

即使是謝霆鋒的英文, 很流俐, 但一聽就知不是native, 而是mindset, 句子結構, 用字遣詞, 都很西方人. 這個程度的英文, 我都會好接受. (因為他會說粵語及很流俐的國語, given that 他不是語言天才, 條數補返喺度).

厚唔厚多士, 睇下係北方來的朋友, 還是吳彥祖啫! 兩個人的粵語咪差唔多, 咁點解呢? You know what underneath is.
