As an experience parent for RCKG & KV, I would like to share my own opinion on both school, it doesn't mean it suits all kids or families. It is only my subjective sharing & hope neither KV or RCKG will be upset after reading it.
Academic curriculum :
KV curriculum is more systemic & there is dictation (Chinese, English & Mental) every week starts from K2.
It is not difficult at the beginning but as it is using the "accumulate" approach, 1 or 2 new words will add each week. Kids have to do revision continuously to ensure they remember all syllabus but on the other hand, kids can really build a good foundation. Sentence structure only be taught reaching the end of K2 and the words of sentence are basically pick from what they learnt previously. Very good approach!
RC comparatively using a theme approach where the words are picked & taught by theme. Start to teach sentence when K2 starts. I found the sentences are quite difficult sometimes & kids (at least my kid) will easily forget how to write the words after the theme is off.
In term of difficulty, RC is more difficult than KV.
Outing activities :
RC has more activities compare with KV. I only count it by number, it doesn't mean KV life is boring.
Parents participations on school activities :
KV doesn't require any participation even no "home" or "family" artwork needed which is go for working parents. It is true as not compulsory & no impact on your kid's school report even not participate.
My own feeling is RCKG would "prefer" active participating parents more (just like other schools).
School report setting :
KV's one is more easy to read & it's calculation logic is more transparent. Basically, both parents & primary school can easily see what your kid is good or need improvement at from the school report content.
RCKG's one is a new 10pages format, it is more all-rounded & details on your kid's performance. The rating is from 0-7 for K1 to K3 kids. I "feel" the rating is more subjective depends on your teacher. K2 kids can only get rank from rate : 3-5 in K2 but the report shows max rate is 7. Unless people read all remarks, else it can easily give a false impression to people your kid is not doing good enough yet.
In fact, I doubt any primary school will spend times to read all pages.
Teachers :
KV is more mature & RC is younger. I found both have very good experience on teaching. But in terms of kids' observation or how to express comments to parents, I found KV is more professional compare with RC. Maybe with the well structure of school setting, KV's teacher is more well known on how to observe the kids & comment on them to parents in a professional way. Less subjective & kids-comparison comments are given.
Kinder support on finding primary school :
KV will not write any letter for any kid. Only awards be given by year end depends on kid's academic performance. Again, it is a systemic calculation. You don't have to think if the teacher likes your kid or not.
RCKG will write 1 letter for each kid but will not write letter to RC primary if your kid is on waiting list. I don't know how useful the letter is for other primary school. As a RCKG parents, I believe all wish the kids can go to RC primary in the first place. If unfortunately, kid is on waiting list, still hope RCKG can help to write letter to RC to get the seat as the number one choice. Feel strange for not doing it.
RCKG is a good kinder with backup & it has a good potential .
As it is new, we all hope RCKG can get a higher admission rate to RC primary (but the % is a bit low comparatively) & the result won't be seen till a few years later. Till now, still unknown if RC primary spare seat will give to RCKG in priority or not.
Therefore, we can see RCKG principal keep "reminding" who has got RC primary seat don't give up now to show the loyalty.
On the other hand, there is uncertainty on how other primary school see RCKG kids. As a current parents, we need to balance how much risk & backup we have when choosing or not choosing RCKG.
