ESF的Foundation小学和RC,DC比,哪个更难考?

according to recent record of  Y1 of ESF, it seemed that most of children who were put in waiting list from foundation school, got offer from RC and DC. For ESF itself, dose that mean RC and DC are easily to enter than foundation school?

Foundation schools are more "difficult" because of 2 things, (1) they are popular so they have far too many applicants, and (2) they don't interview many more children than they have places for, so some children don't even get an interview chance.

RC receives many applications too but they like to cast their net far and wide so they interview almost everyone. DC is less popular with Hongkong families because of it's location and surrounding community, so they have less applicants and they also interview just about everyone.

Besides the difference in chances of getting an interview, there is also the perception that "if something is more difficult to obtain then it is probably better", so people tend to opt for the Foundation school and decline RC or DC if they get more than one offer, this means those who are on RC and DC's wait list are more likely to get a place eventually.

So the overall effect is RC and DC are easier, but as far as the interview itself is concerned, all are about the same in terms of "difficulty", which in reality is not really difficult at all compared to those "divine" local schools.

FattyDaddy analized very logically and reasonally. Besides what you mentioned, an obvious difference between foundation and RC,DC is focus on academic factor. Foundation has heavier academic circles, compared with RC,DC. For secondary level, such as KGV, also seems to get high reputation in famous university offer than RC,DC since they are still young school but also good school.

As some RC parents here might tell you, the PIS schools are just as serious about academics as the Foundation schools, but they do follow a slightly different path in that RC and DC are IB all the way, while Foundation schools are IB (Primary Years) then iGCSE and then IB (Diploma), so there are some minor differences at secondary school level.

Then there is the fact that the Foundation schools have been around for much longer and have more of a track record to show, the PIS schools on the other hand are too new and they have not yet established a reputation for themselves.

most of parents would more like to choose foundation as the first choice than RC,DC, is the relatively cheaper shool fee. For year 1 2014, foundation is HKD7000 per month(no other extra charge), RC,DC is HKD8600 per month( also need to pay non-refundable fee HKD50,000).
Besides above, an interesting psychological consideration, is that other foundation shools exept SJS have primary and secoundary level in different campus, some feel it is better than stay in one campus for 13 years:)

esf  一定難 d，因為單單 esf kindies + siblings priority 都唔少野，而且事實係學費平 d，亦自己多 d 人可以負擔，因此以申請人數，肯定 esf 會較多。rc 一向都唔需要先比位比 esf kindies，佢地收生要求亦和 esf 有少少唔同。我仔女讀 esf，其實 esf 唔係呢度好多人 "吹"  到好過 rc  咁多 (dc 我唔熟，但有朋友仔女讀 rc)，講真，有好多方面，rc 真係做得好過 esf，有時如果退一步客觀 d，可能會睇到另一個畫面。

Yes, not all kindergarten kids got foundation schools interview but RC interviewed almost everyone.

However, someone had already mentioned that foundation school interviews - kids are not competing with each others, they only need to pass the requirements to get an offer.  On the other hand, Independant schools may have a different selection criteria, which means they can select the 'most suitable' children they like.

my son got offer both from foundation and RC this year. I finally decide to take foundation school. But i also have to say i like RC too,which is a good school.

There are pros and cons, it may get a little boring if it is going to be the same campus for 13 years, but having an integrated campus means the children in primary could enjoy facilities normally found only in secondary schools, e.g. an in-campus swimming pool for RC, DC, and SJS {:1_1:}

難入 is not the same as 難考, if we are just talking about the "考" part, i.e. the interview, they are about the same. RC & DC are "easier" not because their interviews are easier, but because it is easier to get an interview with them.

esf 唔係呢度好多人"吹"到好過 rc 咁多, I guess it is human nature to "吹" when they get something which is harder to come by, even though that achievement is due more to luck than ability {:1_1:}

quite agree your idea, FattyDaddy. Somehow it is the same kind of psychological warfare as being dating with someone. More difficult to fall in love with him/her, more precious to cherish him/her. Haha...... Foundation is more difficult to entry than RC/DC, no matter the factor of luck or ability, it is the fact that someone has to pay more efforts to meet chanllege from foundation more than RC. It is none of business of "吹", it is just a normal mental reaction for everyone. Anyway, we emphasize here again, foundation or RC/DC, all of ESF shool are good ones.
