Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

lovelymama,

the school is good.. since there are lots of foreigner live in Abacus, there are not so much chinese/local student compare to other ESF kinder..

Are you living in Sai Kung also, otherwise, your kid cannot transfer to ClearWater Bay school after kinder..

The only problem for me to the school is no chinese will be learn...

Also, if you perfer your kid study in local primary school, it will be a problem that they only have 2 years in this kinder...

Do you know the priority for the school, since my kid won't fall in anyone of time, and I have submit the form a little bit late on May 2004. Therefore, my kids finally are not admitted..

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

I live in Clearwater Bay too.  My husband and I would like to send our daughter there for Kinder.  Last year, my hushand rang the school and was told that we don't need to register our child until she turns two.  But now I worry after reading the message that they have a really long waiting list.

Is there any parents have kids in this school?
When will be the best time to register?
Do they have particular requirement or preference?

Thanks!

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

LovelyMaMa,

I submitted the application in last october.  I think it is kind of late because my daughter will turn to 3 in the coming month.

I think you should submit the form now.

I took the application form in person and just looked into the campus from the outside.  I saw a pretty big playground in the school.

(Sorry for replying you late

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

Mone,

I don't think you should worry about the school put your kid in the long waiting list.  As I can tell that your daughter is a mix kid like my daughter. And bcoz their father is a westerner and they have a westerner last name so the  priority will be higher than most of the children (compare to those are chinese kids) Normally they will put the chinese kids in the waiting list as they can go to the local school, but for the westener kids or if the kids' mothertongue is not Chinese then their chance will be higher as they won't be accepted by the local school.

My friend's son is also a mix kid and her son will go to the kinder in this Sept but she applys the ESF in CWB a bit late but still got accepted.

How old is your daughter now?? I live in Sai Kung, very close to you and my daughter is now 30 months old. She is going to the Nursery now, Does your girl go to any playgroup? Do you know that there's also an int'l school in Sai Kung?  Maybe we can share experience.

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

Hi BabyK,

Yes, my daugther is a mix kid.  She just turned one.  I was going to take her to the playgroup in Marina Cove but  I don't really like the schedule there, plus, I am pregant now.  So, I still haven't done anything about it yet.  Which nursery do you send your daughter to??  Is it good??

I was told by one of our friends that there's is another int'l school in Sai Kung but we don't know the exact loaction.  I believe the school fee there is a bit cheaper than the one in CWB too, right??  Are you going to send your daughter there?

I have already told my hushand about the long waiting list stuff.  Just in case, we may make another phone call to the school next week to make sure we will be doing the right thing at the right time!!

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

Mone,

The Int'l school in Sai Kung called "New Song", my daughter used to go to their playgroup when she was one and half but the school didn't do the playgroup anymore. Its only a very small school. The location is inside the private place called "Floral Villas 早禾居" I think from where you live to there is very far. The school fee is a bit cheaper than ESF-CWB.

Me and my husband doesn't like ESF, so we won't send our daughter to ESF and we both want our daughter to learn Chinese, so we prefer she goes to the local school first, if she doesn't fit in then we will switch her back to int'l. Coz we really want her to learn Chinese. As my husband can speak some basic Chinese and he hopes that our daughter also can speak since she is half Chinese.

Now she is going to a Nursery called "st.simon" in Sai Kung town which is a local Nursery, we want her to learn self-caring and Chinese. So far she improves a lot!! B4 she goes to the Nursery, she went to a playgroup called "leapfrog" I don't know if you heard about it b4 and also there's one called Sai Kung Pre-school Group. But I prefer the first one. I also checked with the one in Marina Cove b4 but I just didn't feel I like it.

Are you a full time Mummy? I look after my daughter myself but she always drives me crazy since now she is in a "Terrible Two!!!"

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

BabyK,

I heard about Floral Villas 早禾居 b4, but I don't really know the exact location.  But it doesn't matter.  I think we prefer the EFS CWB more cos it is very close to where we live.

Actually, I was going to ring the playgroup leapfrog for more details but I am just too lazy to do anything.  Is it near the country park 北潭涌??  One of my friend who lives in Po Lo Che, she said there are too many mosquitos in the SK PSG.  What is the age range of St. Simon??

Yes, I am full time mum.  I guess you might have the idea that 外國人 usually like looking after their kids by themselves.  My hubby has also been staying here for nearly 13 years.  He can speak some but not much cantonese.  He said his cantonese will improve a lot cos he can learn it with our daughter.

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

Mone,

Yes, you are right, the playgroup leapfrog is near the country park 北潭涌. Are you going to drive there or how are you going to get there? Coz you are pregnant now and bring your girl with you, its very far to go there.  And Yes, there are lots of mosquitos in summer but I usually put the mosquito spray/patch on my daughter, so she is very safe!

St.Simon is just like the normal Nursery, from N1 to N4 and now my daughter is in N1,My daughter studys there after she turned 2. In Sai Kung, there are lots of mix kids study in the local kindy(even the westerner kids) to learn Chinese, lots of my friends' kids do the same, and then when they go to primary, they will send them to Clear Water Bay School.

My husband doesn't like us to hire a helper to look after our daughter and he wants me to look after her myself. He is the kind of person doesn't like the idea of hiring a helper.  :-x He always said our Mums never had a helper and they still can look after us!?!

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

BabyK,

I just rang the Leapfrog yesterday but I don't think I will take my daughter there cos their classes start too early.  The class for my daughter starts at 9:30am and my daughter is a very good sleeper.  She usuallys sleeps from 9pm till after 9am every morning.  Also, just like what you said, it is a long drive from CWB to there.  Besides, my hubby said he doesn't think it is really necessary to send the kid to any playgroup.  He always said kids in Aussie only go to kindy for the start.

I would like to know where St. Simon is.  Does it just like a normal local Nursey?  If it is from N1 to N4, does it mean no int'l kindy needed??  just straight to primary??

Then do you have a part time helper to help you out for all the dosmetic cleaning?  My husband has the similar idea.  That's why we only have a part time helper to come in once a week.  But after having the second baby, we are going to have a full time maid cos my hubby thinks I will be too busy to look after an infant and a toddler at the same time.  Anyway, the good thing is the maid will not be staying with us.

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

Mone,

St.Simon is in Sai Kung down town center, Do you know where the "epperoni" is? If you know that, then just go straight up, you can see it.

And it just like a normal local Nursey. And you are right, no need to study the Int'l kindy then go straight to Int'l Primary, but the different is for local Primary, you have to complete N1 to N4 (Nursey) or K1 to K3(Kindy). But If you want your child to go to Int'l Primary then your child only need to complete N1 to N3 (Nursey) or K1 to K2 (Kindy) coz P1 in Int'l Primary is same age as K3 student. So they don't have to complete the kindy.

There are lots of people (Mix kids & Westener kids) in Sai Kung do that way as they want their kids to learn Chinese(the basic, at least to speak). Lots of my friends do that way and their kids go into the ESF-CWB no problem. Since their priority is higher than the others. That's why you can always see the kindy in Sai Kung always have Mix kids and Westerner kids. Some of my friends, Mum and Dad are not Chinese and after the local kindy, they still let their kid to study in the local private Primary coz they want their son to continue to learn Chinese. So it depends on what you expect from your child.

I think the playgroup is for a child to have more chance to get used to play with other children. To learn the social skill. And rather than just staying at home.  If you don't mind my daughter is one year older than your daughter, she can be your daughter's playmate      then your daughter won't be too bored at home.

Hey, I just remember one thing and it might be very suitable to your daughter. Its not a playgroup, but its more like a music class and run by a Westener woman, her name is Sandy. Have you heard of "Music with Sandy"?? In the lesson, she will sing and dance or play some simple musical instruments with your child. I remember she also has some classes in Clear Water Bay b4 but I am not sure about now since my daughter hasn't joined it for almost a year. But if you want to know more details, you can PM me and let me know.

We don't have a part time helper since my daughter go to the Nursey(whole day) so I have lots of free time to do the housework or learn some other things.     But we are planning to have another child soon, so we might hire a part time helper but we will see.

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

BabyK,

I know where Pepperoni is.  I don't go there very often but I go to Moon Kee instead!!

My hubby doesn't like the local school.  He said they always load the kids up with so much homework and I agree.  I have been there and done that.  I don't want my kids suffer with the same problems as those I had before.  So, for us, the only way for our kids to learn Chinese is me and my parents.  Hopefully, I will be able to do my best!!

Is "Music with Sandy" same as the Inspiration which usually takes place in the Studio??  B4, I do worry about the social skill of my daughter and how she deals with people.  She just turned one not long ago.  And I have to say she is a very very social gal.  Also, my hubby is on shift work.  He can spend a lot of time with us and we love taking our baby out to meet friends.

Of course, I would love to have your daughter to be my baby's playmate.  She loves playing with kids.  Also, it sounds like you really have plenty free time.  I wish our babies were over two years old now, including the one in my tummy!!       Then I will have more time by myself, just like you!!

Re: 西貢英基幼稚園

Mone,

Sorry to reply you a bit late since my daughter starts the Easter holiday yesterday. And she keeps me very busy and crazy!!!

I never heard of the Inspiration b4, so I am not sure they are the same or not, I just know Sandy teaches in Sai Kung and CWB and Its a one-man company which means she does everything herself. If you would like to know, I can PM you the no and you can contact her. She teaches from Babies to Primary.

Its good that your hubby can spend lots of time with you guys. My hubby is not in town just now so I have to spend time with my daughter 24 hrs. When she is a good girl, its okay but when she is not.....   Just like yesterday, She was totally out of control and I felt pretty down. Sometimes I will wonder when the "terrible two" will be over!?!      This is one of the reason why we want her to study in the local school, to learn discipline. Coz we just think the int'l school will be too open and too much freedom for her. So let her study in the local kindy for 3 yrs, if they don't suit her then we will switch her back to int'l.
