whole language (全語文) and phonics

近年看到很多小孩上英語拼音班，也有很多不同的拼音方法，在找相關資料時，看到一個叫 whole language 的教學法，近年在歐美等地流行，主張透過聽寫讀講和理解，去學習語言，不再先教phonics.

之前看幼稚園資料時，偶爾也曾看到這個教學法，請問有沒有家長也在用? 還是大家都是教小朋友phonics ?

I skipped phonics and just taught my bb to read by reading to her simple books repetitively.  She just picked up general phonics rules by herself.  

That's the same.way i learnt English when i was small.  Phonics was not the focus but reading and conversation was.  

Phonics was used to supplement the pronunciation of more complicated words only.

Never once was I tested on phonics digraphs .  

When we were p3 or P4, we were taught to look up phonetics table from our Oxford dictionaries.  Electronic dictionaries were prohibited at school.


I personally believe this should be how English is to be taught.

學Phonics 前最好build up vocabs, 要看家和kg的語境， btw, 應是聽說讀寫的order, 對嗎?

I think phonics is great for children who doesn't have an English foundation. If they have already been exposed to English, then it isn't necessary.

次序應該是聽講讀寫。即是對以英語為第二語言的小孩來說，也是應該先聽和講，之後再認字? 在認識和理解一定數量的字詞後才學拼命，以便認識更多辭彙?

I believe phonics only helps with pronunciation and spelling.

Learning a new.vocabulary requires learning the pronunciation, the spelling AND meaning AND usage.

我會覺得至少能説出一些物件的名字才開始，不然就算讀到一本書但唔明入面講乜有何用。
識得某數量的vocabs(聽和説），拼時小孩便知phonics的用處，不過以現在的standard, 應不會是問題。
