ESF Kindergarten Tsing Yi - not even given an interview?

I can't believe it! We have applied for K1 at Esf tsing yi and were looking forward to have interview / play session. Unfortunately just got a letter saying our son would be placed on the wait list. They said they have received a large number of application and they are not in the position to offer our son a place. Application fee is 300 peer person, I wonder how much money they make from it. Feel ripped off!

Don't be disappointed until you receive their letter. You may get an interview. Just that I wonder what they look for when selecting candidates for interview. Or is it first come first serve? Anyone knows?

Yea.... They should have just stopped accepting application if the are not going to offer any more interview or they should have refunded the 300. I don't see they have processed our application, why do we have to pay the 300 processing fee? I feel like HKTV, got rejected for no/unknown reason.
Anyone of you here has an interview offer? How early did you send out your application?

If you have read their website carefully, you should know ESF has priority system, children of ESF staff, siblings have highest priority.There are only 4 kinders but around 20 ESF schools (including primary and secondary and private schools plus ESL staff....
Then the siblings of these school, the places for outsiders are very limited. It's not surprised that no interview is offered. Unlike local schools which interview must be offered, many international schools do not offered interview even you paid for several hundred or thousands

We are actually aware of their priority system, but possibly underestimate the number of siblings and kids of staff. We have never thought of the fact that the net extends all the way up to primary and and secondary school and of course good that you pointed out there are 20 esf schools! We understand that making an application does not guarantee interview for most schools, and 300 is a lot less that many other schools are charging, but I feel odd to receive the rejection letter this soon and I suppose my application had just gone directly to the bin once they received it. Processing fee? Where is the processing? That's my point.

It is not exactly a rejection, they have placed you on the waiting list, and may well invite your family to a play visit (interview) later on.

What it really means is, you are not in the first round of play visits, but as time progresses, there will be people who decline offers and there will be further rounds of interviews.

Yes you should. It's no different from buying lottery. The difference is you are buying hope if you don't have priority.

Same here. I applied for K1 at hillside last year, we also got the letter saying my daughter  placed on waiting list. My friend applied first time this year but can get the chance for interview. What's the rule?

To me "on the waitlist" is just a better term than "you are rejected". But thanks,  your explanation lights up my hope again. You sound familiar with their intake process. Is there anything you can share regarding their second round interview? Was there even one in the past?

We didn't schedule for a parents tour. The first one started on 8th Oct. If attending the tour makes a difference they should have arranged some tours earlier than  1st Oct (the application start date).
