Thank you warrren for your suggest. I downloaded it without looking. The result is, everything changed to computer code.

Then I read again in another computer, and find that it is a must for the current users already installed the Chinese input programme either "Cong Kit" or "chuk sing". Otherwise it will destroy the EUDU (I don't know what is it, i think it is the decoding system in the computer) in your computer at which could not be recovered.

Please find that I am not blaming you for this. Only I was too careless in reading the message. But I want to warn the others in more care.

Sorry to hear that.  From the Readme file, it seems that the way out is to install an input method, using the windows installation disc.  Uninstalling the character set may also help.  Good luck.

Any computer expert here?

The character set was removed and I already install another input method but the damaged could not be recovered. The stupid OEM version of the 廠机 will only allow an entire re-install while my computer contains something very important (not me, but the company) that not allowed to do so.

It  has been sent to the expert already. Don't worry. How's your violin learning?

I hope that you are not losing anything on your computer.

I am having tremendous fun with the violin.  With some hard work, I have reached stage 2 - stage 1 = unable to play at all; stage 2 = able to play badly; stage 3 = able to play well.  Seriously, I am now at Suzuki book 4, song no.4, Vivaldi Concerto in A Minor first movement.  At the same time I am using Schradieck and Sevcik.  I have also developed a strong interest in violin making and identification and have acquired quite a few books, old and new, on the topics.  Just a week ago I successfully opened the top of a dirt cheap VSO (violin shaped object) without adding a single scratch to it.  I am now able to cut and install a soundpost and bridge with confidence.

How is your piano and violin?  It must be hard to work on two instruments at the same time.

My computer is back, with very intersting outcome. The fonts totally changed especially the Chinese character. The expert gave help only to make sure I could run the computer in respect of the company business. I have to work it out by myself in the outlook of the fonts

When will you have your first home made violin? make it a private business, may I be the first buyer if it is not too expensive?

Since my progress is totally in accordance with my son, (he is my piano teacher)and he is now preparing the ARBSM(?) exam and the school music festival. Boring things since all the time playing the same piece, while I am not interested in those songs and scales. I just play the old pieces.

Violin, after I changed the teacher, (the one you introduced is too far from my home) he is an extraordinary boring teacher but concern much in techniques and posture. I don't know the progress is far or slow(usually it is slow subject to my son's slow learning speed). Actually the first few lessons were taking the rectification in the posture. And he insists me participate in the lessons. In fact I learn more than my son even he doesn't need me to perform in front of him.

I get some problem to my fingers movement. C in A string 連弓 to F sharp of D String. very difficult to make it smooth, and I find my fingers is too big, unable to press on the string without affecting the adjcant strings.

We are now up to song 14x of 篠崎 book one and I find myself incline to violin more. People say suzuki is more funful in learning, any elementary book in suzuki suggested?

Dear ykwong,

Violin playing and making is just a hobby at this moment.  I have no plan to run a shop.

Strings crossing is more a problem with the right arm, I believe.  Keep the right arm relaxed and be at liberty to raise the elbow.  PM me your fax no. so that I can fax you the relevant pages from Carl Flesch's The Art of Violin Playing that I find useful.

If you are switching to Suzuki, I strongly suggest that you should get a copy of The Suzuki Violinist: A Guide for Teachers and Parents by William Starr (try Amazon if you can't find it in HK).  The book gives detailed advice on matters that one needs to pay attention to when learning the songs in the Suzuki song books.

It sounds good to me that your son's teacher cares about posture and the basics and insists that you should be present in your son's lessons.  It may sound crazy to you, but I do not find scales and arpeggios boring (I can do scales arpeggios for an hour or two without noticing the passing of time).

Yes, you are more right, the problem may be due to string crossing and not the fingers movement. For a better start, I don't find playing scale in violin boring, it only found on piano.

I like your word "fiddling"!
