可否提供黃埔德寶幼稚園的意見

各位媽咪:

我想替小女轉校, 想多了解黃埔德寶中英文幼稚園是否一所好學校, 英文程度如何? 是否真的由外籍老師教授英文.

Deborah has three kinds of teaching mode, namely, international, bilingual & mainstream.  Which one you are looking at?  For international, it is definitely taught by NETs.  For bilingual, one Chinese and one NET stationed in each class.  I know a girl studying K1 mainstream, both of her Chinese and English standard are quite good as far as I know.

My child studies K1 in its bilingual (I'll say trilingual as they offer Mandarin) class.  His class has some Indian children whose English are definitely good.  My child's best friend (a Chinese boy) in the class always says English.  In such environment, my child speaks English more than Chinese.  It depends on the type of class you choose for your daughter.  The teachers are good and caring.  My child sometimes misses his ex-NET.

好多謝你寶貴的意見.  我仍在考慮應選那種教學模式, 我比較希望小女能學好英文, international class 是可以提供她一個良好的學習環境, 但我擔心完全不學中文或只靠我們在家教她, 到升小學時她會追得很辛苦.  所以都會考慮billingual class.  

請問學費是否hk$2950/月(billingual class)? 有沒有其他雜費? 請問你小朋友是讀黃埔2期, 7期定9期的學校呢?

Hi WChan,

Yes, the school fee is $2950 x 12 installments for bilingual class (quite expensive).  Except for uniforms and study materials, there's no extra charge.  They have birthday party once two months - no charge for that.

General speaking, international class is in Site 9, bilingual class is in Site 7 & I find mainstream classes in both Site 2 & 7.  My boy is in Site 7.  We find him learns a lot there (he's a Nov small boy) and sings a lot of songs.  The Chinese standard is quite high in mainstream class.  The K1 girl I know has to write since 1st term.  She knows words such as "船".  The only thing you have to watch out is the turn-over of the teachers.  My child's NET has changed once this school year, which is not good for both children and the school.

我聽到有些家長告訴我, 學校雖說是雙班主任制度, 一個中國人老師, 一個NET, 但其實個NET係會三間學校週圍走, 即分配到給每一班的時間並不如學校所說的每天1小時半, 你有發現此情況嗎?

It is normal that the kid from international class finds it hard to catch up in local primary school as such class is not meant for this.

It did happen at the start of the 2nd term in my child's class as the new NET needed time to get her visa.  It lasted for around two weeks.  I don't know the real situation, but my mom takes my kid to school and she sees my kid's NET both in the morning and after school.

At last, I would like to say Deborah adopts active learning approach as their teaching method.  It is common to find that students graduated from such kindergarten may not perform well in primary school at the very beginning.  Not only this kindy.  I feel sorry for Y&T's comments as her messages always frustrate many of us, past and present.

How long did your child study in Deborah? from K1-K3 ?

My daughter has been studying at site 7 bilingual N1 class since Sep 04.  I have experienced the same problem of NET turn over, my girl's NET resigned after X'mas.

I consider whether or not to stay at Deborah for K1-K3.  Would you give me some advice, please?

My boy has been staying in Deborah for around 10 months, starting from pre-nursery in Apr 04.  Now he's in K1.  It's really astonishing to hear that it happened in another class.  It's still a mystery to me why so many NETs resigned.  

For primary schools, I know most graduates will go to 黃埔宣道 and 奉基 so far.  If you are satisfied with these primary schools, you may let your daughter stay.  If you want to apply DSSs / private schools, you may need to think about other kindergartens.  For my case, we want a kindy with higher reqirements to help my boy enter into his father's mother school, we may leave the school after K1.  Anyway, me and my hubby are satisfied with what Deborah has given to my child.  It gives him a good foundation on everything, which I think leads him to be accepted by Kentville, SC and Pui Ching for the coming school year.

我個囡今年九月會考小學入學試, 我並不打算幫佢考最top既學校如DGS, SPCC等, 我只是希望佢可以考到直資或者私校如陳守仁, 聖瑪加利, SFA, 或者宣道我已經好開心.  不過這幾間學校都用英文interview, 我個囡d oral仲係好麻麻, 咁落去都唔洗指意考到, 所以咪幫佢轉校lor.  因此我比較注意英文方面, 其他科目我地會係屋企自己幫佢補習.  我媽咪現在每日放學都有自己教額外野比佢, 所以我個囡既進度是比同校小朋友快好多, 佢已經學緊乘數.

其實我仲好十五十六, 唔知咁安排係咪對佢好, 所以想請教大家意見.

I understand your concern and would suggest sending her to some extra English class whatever your plan is.  Even parents whose children studying in St. Catherine's do send their children to such class to booster their English.  My boy is attending an English class outside.

If you think PLKTAYSF's English is higher, I may tell you a case.  My neighbour's boy is a K3 student there.  He failed in both 陳守仁 & SFA.  I just want to say we cannot solely rely on the school only.  

Moreover, if you change the school now, your girl will be in the new kindergarten for just a short while.  Then she has to adapt another new life in her primary school.  Would it be too harsh for her?

其實我個囡一直有在出面讀英文班, 都讀左年幾, 不過進度好慢. 又好難怪既, 一星期先得一小時可以學到d咩呀, 所以想找一個可以時常接觸到英文既環境比佢.

轉校最主要原因是我個囡係現時間幼兒園上得唔係好開心, 因為全日既關系, 要在校食午餐, 但我個囡就食得好慢, 其他小朋友食晒之後, 老師就要佢去第二間課室(k1班房)繼續食直至食晒為止.  我個囡成日覺得自己好似怪獸咁比其他班既小朋友望住食飯, 個心又掛住想返自己班房, 於是就成日同先生講我唔想食, 但先生又好堅持要佢一定要食完唔可以偏食同浪費食物.  久而久之, 我覺得我個囡有d厭食, 個人又愈來愈廋, 又唔鍾意返學, 放學個樣都唔係好開心, 所以咪想幫佢轉換下環景, 搵間返半日唔駛係學校食飯既學校lor.  

咁做好似斬腳指避沙蟲, 不過健康最緊要, 咁樣落去我真係好擔心佢身體.  佢一聽見可以轉校都唔知幾開心, 仲問幾時可以轉.
