LH vs SC - review

it is not another post asking your help to make decision between 2 schools.

just to post a short review to help those who are going to apply for both schools.

from the material and seminar we have seen from sc and lh, i noted there are a nos of similarities between two schools, the approach and curriculum. just name a few as follows:

- dual class teachers
- school based curriculum
- reading scheme
- show and tell
- learning aid/kits
- materials with their own characters wearing school uniform
- parent story telling
- seminars for parents

you will not make a false decision between these two schools if you are looking for the above.

As you know the kid will normally attend one kindergarten only, how would you make decision between LH & SC ?

我最後揀左sc 其實LH am真係好唔捨得放！！但係見個仔面家返學返得咁開心，咁就唔好諗咁多！！

pick the one suit your kids most, e.g. location, other minor things.

there are still some differences between two schools, but i would say similarities are much more than differences.

yes, what really surprised me is they both have their own character (pak ching, mei mei, hei hei)

Definitely not. LH has it own school based development section since 2003 to create all learning materials.

i think sc in general is the role model of most commercial kg in hk including lh, given the fact that sc was established in 1970 while lh was formed after yr 2000. however, i bet a couple of good things that sc might have learned from lh, e.g. theme book with their own characters and the puff dolls.

also, i really appreciate the effort that lh had made on organizing seminars for parents and the inter-campus sport day!

here below i summarize the differences:

- outdoor playground (sc)
- school scale (800x for sc while 1xx for one lh campus)
- class size (sc has big class of around 30 kids, and small class of around 18 kids)
- source of students (more localized for lh campus, more wider span for sc)
- net (only full time in k1 for sc, while full time for 3/4 yrs for lh)
- course for enhancing p1 interview skill (free for lh, optional for sc)
- mode of teaching (more interactive for sc, active but more discipline for lh)
- visibility (much more for lh, e.g. web album/tea with principal/parent day/emails notice, web notice/parent day for sc)
- phonic (sc own phonic sys vs. letterland for lh)
- curriculum (read from the forum: more general knowledge in daily life for sc, more academic for lh)
- ps placement (bid for dss/private school for safe but target on elite aided school for sc, target on dss/private school for lh)
- parents circle

correct me if you find any of the above mistaken.

- phonic ( letterland for LH only PN and K1,) K2 and K3 use synthesis phonic (LH 校本課程)

To be more exact , For SC , NETs teach English everyday n also show up in the "grouping" time. Only k1 has NET 班主任 but not K2n k3

SC gave training on school interview skill in K2/k3??during school time at No additional fee n it is NOT only optional. If u join their K2 to K3 summer class, it include additional interview training too.

So, K2 and K3 summer course need to pay? Btw, LH has its own learning kit (one set per 2 months) to let parent play/ teach kid at home, does SC has something like this?

Summer course for sure need to pay ! Is there any kindergarten provide summer course free ???

Learning kit- I don't know what LH learning kits like .for st cat they provide English n Chines word cards , not a fancy one. Sc also gave a basic phonic cd for parents

From what I read, there are not much similarities especially in terms of teaching style which is one of the most crucial considerations.  In short, SC seems more interactive whereas LH is more academic.
