I want a foreign passport!

500K NR... To lots of people it's a big ripped off! (Well, for me too).  Think about topping another close to 4k on the regular school fee every month for 13 years at ESF schools.
This year's primary school fee is $7k a month, with the $4k topped on it, every month's primary school fee makes almost $11k. Some parents may think with that fee, there are other choices with smaller class size, a bilingual school..... Every family has its own scenario and affordability, so the NR may still be popular among those who has the extra money and really like ESF not from the fee point of view.

Yes samsam123321, you are absolutely right. That's why I said different family has different scenario. While I don't think this amount of money for a non refundable NR makes sense but other with the example scenario might think otherwise. Similarly, those who can afford the million dollars debenture and knowing that they may or may not be in a competitive position without the "priority" would be more than willing to take out the money. As far as I know, the million dollar debenture is not compulsory at a number of reputable IS (no?) and the money for those debenture/ Capital notes is refundable. Of course, you need to have that amount of money to be parked there for a number of years. While ESF NR's $500k is not refundable...

Haha, I actually saw it on TV back then, all I did was search for 慈祥鵬 on YouTube, but then Google owns YouTube now, so I suppose I should still thank Google {:1_1:}

Yes, Hongkong was a different place back then, that is why nowadays some Hongkongers feel like a visitor in their own home.

我想說的是，即使有外國passport，現在考國際學校一點也不易，我身邊有很多有外國passport的朋友的小孩一所也考不上 (當然不是全香港的國際學校也報考，但比較多人喜歡的都幾乎報考了！)，或許我可以分享一下我自己的經驗....

我兒子有澳洲passport，由他一出生開始，我們便打算讓他讀國際學校，所以一切都以此為目標，幫他報讀國際幼稚園，製造英語環境，而小兒性格開朗，愛說話，愛表達，很主動，性格也是適合讀國際學校。

我們幫他報考了很多所國際學校，最初，SIS, CDNIS, AISHK都pass 了interview，但是被放在waiting list，我們查詢後備情況時，CDNIS透露小兒排的位置挺前，難說有沒有機會，但不是沒希望。AISHK則說因為太多siblings，加上他們一月接受申請，但我們二月才交表，所以遲了一點點，令小兒不能即時被取錄。SIS則表明太多人申請，waiting其實已算考得不錯(明顯是安慰說話！)，有位的機會很微。另外也考了CIS，有面試機會，但不被取錄。本來用CAIS做back up，誰知竟然連waiting也沒有，interview班的導師都託異，不過，CAIS較喜歡比較定的小朋友，可能因此不取錄小兒。

很是徬徨之際，ESF出了nomination right，我們計過數，如小兒一直讀到year 12才離港，以ESF的學費較普遍的IS便宜來計算，將這五十萬除開，其實也較很多IS便宜。於是申請，小兒也成功入讀了ESF。在小兒被ESF取錄後兩天，也收到AISHK的offer，當時其實也一度掙扎，但綜合很多人意見，最後還是選了ESF。交了錢後，再收到CDNIS的取錄，我們也都一心入ESF了，所以沒有要CDNIS的offer。

此外，我們也申請了GSIS、FIS和KCIS，GSIS叫小兒去面試時，我們已take了offer，所以沒有去，而FIS和KCIS，則到現在連回音也沒有！

所以，有外國passport也通常只會有利於一所學校，小兒的情況是考AISHK較有利。其實，要考上任何一所也不容易。小兒幼稚園同學，有一個鬼仔，加拿大人，考了CDNIS三次也不取錄，一所IS也考不上，ESF也沒有interview, 這個小孩一點問題也沒有，只是性格較慢熱而已！連外國人也如此，passport的作用不是你想像中大，因為現在競爭是太激烈了！

還有，我帶小兒面試ESF時，有另一位台灣家長也是買了nomination right，所以其女兒有面試機會，可是，後來，她的女兒沒有被取錄！

也說回小兒情況，現在他在ESF year 1，開學以來幾個星期，我觀察學校的情況，完全沒有後悔這個決定，除了一班人數比較多外，我們實在十分喜歡這間學校，包括小兒。學校安排了很多workshops，看得出很有熱誠，連helpers的workshops也有，這些workshops是沒有額外收取費用的。還有，在小孩適應校園生活上，他們也設想得非常周到，一切以小孩喜愛上學為重，我碰到的每一位家長都很滿意學校的安排，他們的小孩都十分喜愛上學，這都是很多選擇國際學校的家長所希望見到的！

我也有朋友的兒子在另一所ESF讀year 1，朋友也是買了NR，她當初不太肯定自己的決定是否正確，身邊有很多人都勸她讓兒子讀local school，她自己也很猶豫，但現在，開學兩星期，她也是如我一樣，十分滿意學校的所有安排，甚至她原先想幫兒子報坊間的德育課程，因為覺得ESF應該不會著重，現在也覺得沒有這個需要，因為學校其實很重視孩子的德育。

當然，我會覺得，若希望孩子學術快人一步的家長，是不太適合的。但國際視野、全面發展等，我對ESF是有信心的。

Thank you for sharing. The number of applicants is unlikely to decrease in the near future, IS admission is not getting easier.

Well then I should ask my mom if she remembers that song.  I do not remember it but I love it!  
Passports or not, are we worrying too much about our kids?  It is so stressful to be parents these days...

我在是否買NR上一直猶豫，雖然可以承擔500K，但這不是小數目。
