唔係好識分幼兒園 Nursery / 幼稚園 KG 有乜分別？
對昇上小學有乜影響？
有冇分津貼 or 直資？
請各位指教下。
我好驚，見您地 d BB幾個月就諗定報名，我囡囡一歲了我仲十下十下，唔知點入手。
求您地教教我。

in HK, there are two systems of pre-primary education. One is the 3 year kindergarten system run by the Department of Education ie K1 K2 and K3. BB starts when she is 3. The other is the 4 year nursery system run by the Department of Welfare. BB starts when she is 2. Kindergartens are only half day schools and the bb's age is according to that year ie if your bb is born anytime in 2003, she will start K1 in 2006. Nurseries can be full or half day and school fees vary quite a lot. They also have different age requirements eg one nursery may only accept bb born before Sept 2003 and others may only accept babies before before July 2003. Choosing a nursery, you have to be careful whether or not you can apply to primary one  after the 4th year/ So if your bb starts nursery very young, she may have to repeat a year before they can apply to primary one

THere are some other differences but I think those are the main ones. Hope you find this useful.

入讀官立和資助小學分三輪，首輪收生計分制收生（如：適齡學意：10分；首名出生子女:5分，同學校同一宗教:5分等），第二輪是依學生住所派位，申請入讀什麼幼稚園都不會影響派位結果，第三輸是‘叩門’，家長可自行在派位放傍後到各校申請入讀，不過，一般一間學校只有數個學位。

有些幼稚國有直屬私立小學（如民生、培正），有些幼稚國有資助小學（如聖羅撤、協恩）；不過，前者可直升，後者要依教局申請（計分制、派位和叩門），不可直升。

至於幾時報名便要看看那一間幼稚園呢。有些幼兒國可以一早報名面試（因為有很多人申請），有些便要在限定時間內報名，有些就今個月報名下個月插班都得。

I havent checked with all but I think most nurseries do not require bb to be 2 years 8 months when they study nursery. The requirement is that they are 2 years old by the time the school year starts that is why my bb is starting nursery at Victoria in August this year (but she will only be 2 years old then).

The requirement for K1 is usually 2 years 8 months by the time the school year starts ie September of each year so as I said before, if your bb is born anytime in 2003, then bb can enrol for K1 in Sept 2006.

I dont think there are any kindergartens that provide full day - that is the requirement of the Department of Education. However a lot of schools operate nurseries and kindergartens in the same name so you may be getting a bit confused between the two. You can obtain a list of all kindergartens 幼稚園

Sorry,MARSHMELLOW. I just want to make sure whether I have got some inaccurate information.
I have noticed that some kindergarten do provide full day education to children.
E.g.九龍塘聖若望英文書院  崇真小學暨幼稚園,etc
They provide full day class in k2 and K3.

puibb: you are right, I checked the Dept of Education website and it says that St Johannes KG provides full day. But my understanding all along (and from reading about this) has been that KG is only half a day and nurseries provide both half and full day. Maybe that is not the rule but just the normal situation. I am very sorry if I have confused you and any other mothers!

Could you please further share with me your opinions on the choice of  Nurseries / KGs, ie
Why do you have your child going to Nursery but not KG, or vice versa.

For me, I have chosen nursery now (Victoria) because they will accept my bb at 2 years old. I would like her to start school early so that she can learn to look after herself, become more independent and learn how to "make friends" with other little children. More selfishly, if my bb goes to school then she will spend less time with my maid so they will not too close :)  : Next year, when she is nearly 3, I can apply to KG and then consider which is the better option
