To my knowledge, the number of AP students admitted by HKU is not many. The reason is that there are not many AP applicants each year who applied to HKU or other local colleges.
However, 5 of AP students (out of 10 applicants) of my D's classmates were admitted by HKU in 2012. They (2 of whom are foreigners) all settled in HKU.
The number of students who take AP examination each year is about 3 million worldwide.
For AL, it is around 0.5 million, For IB, it is around 0.1 million each year.
So AP's qualification is well recognised by most (if not all) prestigious colleges or universities in the world.
For diversity reason, the local universities would like to admit AP students, probably their liberal art education experience - the education which allows the students to compose their own curriculum (other than some core language subjects).
